Can somebody help me become a better cook?!
Answers: I am a good cook. I started cooking at 12 year old. I now in college so I don't cook much now. However, I want to become a really good at cooking. What are some good books and websites that can teach me how to become really good?
Trying to become a better cook, I watched the food network shows, and paid close attention to what the cooks and chefs were doing. I also frequent http://www.allrecipes.com and found great recipes. Make sure to pay attention to the reviews of other people who made the recipes, as their inputs are invaluable. Some very seasoned cooks list what they have done to tweak the recipe to perfection.
My cooking as greatly improved using these techniques. Like you, I was a good cook, just didn't do it much. Now I can cook just about anything I want. I'm not only able to tweak recipes myself, but I'm not afraid to try any recipe I find.
Good luck!
try and try some more, practice will get you better. i lke the site allrecipes.com
while you are at school, can you take a culinary class?
A really good, intense, comprehensive, cookbook is Madeleine Kamman's "The New Making of a Cook". She's a very good writer and it reads more like a novel than a cookbook.
Also, learning to cook is like learning to play an instrument. If you want to become good at it, then practice as much as possible.
Watch Food Network, esp. during the day b/t classes, if you can, or Sat. during the morning for "In The Kitchen" to get cooking tips and advice. (evenings are usually prorgrammed to be more competitions and/or travel shows)
There are simple videos on Food Network as well. How to debone a chicken, How to make Ravioli, stuff like that.
The best thing you can do, however, is practice! Watch a recipe made on FN, then get the recipe online, then make it at home.
