Can you add the juice from your cooked potatoes to gravy?!
Answers: I always to add the juice from other veg such as carrots, turnip, cabbage and sprouts to my gravy more tasty but have never used the water from my potatoes. It is safe or would it be too starchy?
yes you can but be aware that the starch in the potato water will thicken the gravy also.
no ...its full of starch and will taste horrid... use the veggie waters instead...
i have always done that and we are all still alive!
Yes you can. That's the way my mother taught me to make it.
Yes I always keep the water from all my veg and add to the gravy, it always tastes delicious!!
i must try that today...:-)
too starchy
I did not know you could do that. Thanks!
yes> but it doesn't taste as nice as the pea' cabbage or sprout juices lovely you've made me hungry now.
My Grandmother used to always use the water from the potatoes because it was starchy and added seasoning. It makes a wonderful gravy. She used to add flour to the meat juices over a high heat, add the potato water and stir then finally add a little Bisto to give it colour, the result was the best gravy I have ever tasted.
No way-if you add the water, it will taste like cardboard and if you like the whole plate tasting of all your old Christmas cards then fine-but I don't think guests will be impressed! The starch from yor potatoes will ruin the whole lot.
Is it safe? Yes-but so is eating rude animal parts, but I don't do it as they probably don't taste nice. Using the water won't make things better.
I'm starving-can I come?!
It is perfectly safe to use this water. There will be a little starch, but not enough to do any major harm to the gravy.
it would proberbly be fine as long as you don't add to much! It might give it more flavour!
i always add potato water to my gravy
yes i was taught to make it with potato and veg juice. i think it gives it a nicer taste, i make mine with the juices from the meat, whisk in some flour add the potato and veg juice until it's the consistancy you like it and then add some proper gravy browning (although it seems to be hard to get hold of in other areas other than Wales), if not some granules, perfect gravy.
If you think it will taste too starchy - then make it a 50/50 mix with your veggie water.
