put it in hot water for a long time

in water?

ya boil water in a pot and leave it in there for a long time

put water and an egg in the pot then heat it up. when it starts to boil set a timer for 12 minutes. after 12 minutes get the hot water out of the pan (without breaking the egg or burning yourself) then if you want it cracked then crack it and leave it in cool water for 10 minutes. if you don't then leave it uncracked in cool water for 10 minutes

Well, this is a rather easy recipe that I'm sure you'll find satisfactory.

*Place the egg in a saucepan.
*Run cold water into the saucepan until the water is 1 inch above the egg.
*Place the saucepan on a stove and cook over medium heat until the water begins to boil.
*Reduce the heat to low
*Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes for soft-boiled eggs or 10 to 15 minutes for hard-boiled eggs.
*Remove the egg with a spoon or ladle and let it cool slowly, or run cold water over it to cool it more quickly.

Don't over cook your eggs, it can cause a green ring to appear around the egg yolk because of the iron and sulfur in the egg. This will not affect the taste of the egg, but overcooking will hurt the protein quality.

if ya want a runny un boil it in water for 6mins if you want it hard boiled 7 mins is good

place an egg in a pan of water and bring it to a boil, let it boil for at least five min, and it should be a boiled egg. :) (Am I a good home ec teacher?)

This is for dummies, including me.. Bring medium pan of water to boil, put in eggs, boil 1 minute. shut of heat put on lid and let set for 25 mins. thats it no watching, other than one min. Remember to get eggs to peel easy , you must start with boiling water. You will find many say to start with cold water, no way unless you have time to try to peel them.
It took me 50 years to find the secret.

stick it in a pot of water w/ about a Tsp of salt and put it on the stove wait till it boils and then stick an egg in for 6- 10 minutes

hope this helps

how high above sea level are you? in s. fla,it would take 3-5 minutes for hardboiled..in colorado,it would probably be triple that....

Regular Store-Bought Eggs:
1. put eggs in a pot and cover with COLD water to an inch or so above them;
2. bring to a boil on high heat;
3. reduce heat to medium heat;
4. cook for 10 minutes for large eggs (8 for small);
5. drain off the hot water and continuously pour cold water over them (under the faucet) to cool them down;
6. Peel and enjoy!

Fresh Farm Eggs:
Guess what? Fresh eggs have to be cooked slightly different; you need to add at least 1/4cup salt and/or vinegar to the water to make sure the shells peel off easily. I usually use both with my eggs (I have chickens) and I never have a problem with the shells coming off.

That's how I boil eggs...
:o)
