I'm confused with this ingrediant a recipe calls.?!
This is what it says specifically:
12 cloves garlic, peeled and quartered lengthwise.
Does this mean 12 cloves or 12 garlics?
I'm very new to cooking, so I'm clueless.
Also, it serves 6, if that helps.
Answers: I'm making this recipe called "Garlicky Brussel Sprouts Saute" from Vegetarian Times, but I'm confused about the amount of garlic cloves I need.

It means "12 cloves of garlic"--the smaller parts that break off of a "head" of garlic. If you have 6 "heads" of garlic, you certainly have many more than 12 "cloves" of garlic. I love to saute Brussels Sprouts in Olive Oil with plenty of sliced fresh Garlic and some salt and pepper.
Hope this helps!
A clove is the little slightly rounded little piece or segment that is inside the bulb once you peel away the papery outside skin. Be sure you peel the clove too. You want 12 of the little segments not 12 of the big bulbs.
Wow - I love garlic, and that is a lot of garlic. And there is nothing better than garlic and brussles sprouts! 12 cloves means 12 individual cloves of garlic - cloves are what make up a bulb of garlic.
One clove is the white piece you buy in the grocery store. When you get it home, squeeze it and it will separate into separate cloves. Your recipe wants 12 of these. Another good way to separate cloves is to cut off the top of the garlic (the flat side, not the pointy side). The individual cloves will come apart easily.
I hope you like garlic, that's a lot...
It means 12 individual garlic cloves. There are a lot of cloves in each head of garlic, but you only need 12 cloves. Recipe sounds great. I hope it turns out well. Good luck!!
Take a garlic bulb and break-off 12 good looking cloves. Take the side of your cleaver and smash each one just enough so the peel can easily be removed. Carefully slice each little clove into 4 lenthwise pieces.
It means 12 cloves. 1 garlic bulb contains a number of cloves or pieces of garlic. Just peel off the outer skin of the bulb and divide the interior segments. Remove the skin covering each clove and split each clove in half and then in half again. Sounds like a lot of garlic, however garlic gets sweet tasting when it has been cooked for a while. A good cookbook if you are starting out is Joy of Cooking because it will tell you about different kinds of ingredients and cooking methods. Enjoy
12 pieces of the garlic head. Not 12 heads of garlic.
Garlic comes as a Bulb wrapped in its own paper like husk.....peel the husk away and you have little individual pieces, these are called the Cloves. So you will need 12 of the individual pieces or cloves from the bulb.
