Help with my wedding meal choices?!

Question: We're going to offer the filet mignon with a mushroom sauce, but we can't decide on the second choice. what would you eat? or, if it were your wedding, what would you pick? I'm thinking either the Swordfish or the Daniel's Penne. Thanks! :)
(I only included the options that my family will actually eat)
-Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp (Three Jumbo Gulf Shrimp filled with a crabmeat stuffing)
-Atlantic Salmon Filet (Basil Wrapped Salmon seared and finished with a house remoulade sauce)
-Fresh Filet of Haddock (Baked with lemon, white wine & herb crumb topping)
-Swordfish Steak (Served with a lemon dill butter)
-Maryland Crabcakes (Chock full of Chesapeake Bay Crabmeat topped with a lemon basil aioli sauce)
-Chicken Tuscany (with a light sauce of roasted peppers, onions, artichokes, portabella &tomato)
-Shaker Chicken (Roasted breast of chicken with cranberry cornbread stuffing)
-Daniel's Chicken Penne (penne in a tomato cream sauce topped with Cajun chicken)

First of all Beth, how do I get invited? The food sounds fantastic! As a guest, I want to be surprised by the food. I don't want the standard reception fare if I can help it. So for me, chicken is out. After much thought, I'd go with the Haddock. It's a mild fish (unlike Salmon), and I think now days you have as many fish eaters as meat eaters. My second choice would be the Swordfish. They all sound great to me though, not a bad one on the list. Your finance is lucky to have a woman with such impecable taste. Literally! Good Luck

i woudl go with teh Jumbo shrimp that sounds really good : )

i would go with a chicken dish as there are many ppl who are allergic to shell/sea food or just dont like it.

Shaker Chicken. if you go with something Cajun, some people will not eat it because it may be spicy. Swordfish can be dicey - if it isn't super fresh and cooked properly, it is not so good.

the Shaker Chicken is middle of the road and is something most people would be comfortable with.

i am a pastry chef and am married to a chef. we do tons of catering. the best rule of thumb is to keep food simple. when we cater a wedding reception, we encourage the bride and groom to remember that what they choose to serve should be appealing to most people. spicy food and fish are generally don't appeal to the majority. of course, if you are on one of the coasts or are in an area of the country where everyone goes spicy, that may change your guest profile.

amazing offerings, tho!

As quite often people are allergic to shell fish (I being one of them) I would go with either the Salmon Filet (sounds delicious wrapped in basil and seared) or the File of Haddock, but of the two I think the Salmon would compliment the Filet Mignon (qualilty and price wise). Stay away from the chicken dishes or the pasta as they seem cheap.

It might be a small wedding, but the stuff you have chose is pretty gross. Sorry, not trying to be mean, maybe I am the minority here. I would do something like marinated chicken breast. Good luck and best wishes for your new life.

No to the penne because it sounds like too much of a one dish meal.
No to the shaker chicken because cranberry cornbread stuffing is kind of an acquired taste and you would probably be better off with a dish that would appeal to the majority of guests.
I don't think seafood is the best choice either because seafood is one of those things that people either love or they hate, there really isn't a large grey area.

I would go with the chicken tuscany because a wider range of people like chicken than do seafood. The sauce for the chicken sounds absolutely wonderful, too!

Usually the alternative to red meat is either fish or chicken or pork. Your selection sounds yummy! Here are my choices:

#1 Chicken Tuscany
#2 Atlantic Salmon
#3 Swordfish
#4 Chicken Penne
#5 Crabcakes
#6 Jumbo Shrimp
#7 Shaker Chicken
#8 Haddock

Too bad you can't offer the crab cakes or shrimp along side the filet! Good luck!

Go for Chicken Tuscany. That sounds DELICIOUS. Especially the sauce. Mmmmmmmmm... Making my mouth water. :)

I would go with the Haddock because it is a mild fish that most people will like but Salmon is a more high class choice. That's what I would order off that menu.
However if you are going to be having a lot of children or picky eaters at the wedding I would go with a chicken dish.

Yes I agree with most. being a wedding planner for a few years I've seen it all. It's always better to go simple (still classy but simple pallet). Most people like Chicken so with the Fillet Mingnon chicken or a simple pasta would complement it best. With fish you risk many people turning up their nose.

The only way i've recomended fish for a wedding is if it's a small enough wedding that you know everyone would like the fish. If that's case here then I would recommned the salmon as that would complement the Fillet Mignon best. Sordfish is VERY tempremental and if not done right could be simply aweful.

If on the other hand you are not sure about your guest's preference then I would suggest either the Chicken Tuscany or deffering away from your list a bit I would say a pasta dish, perhaps a simple penne in a basil and tomatoe sauce or Penne a'la vodka (soooooo good) or any pasta really.

I would say sure to the Daniel's Chicken Penne however having the heavy cream sauce pasta along with chicken is very heavy in itself and with your guests having just savoured the beauty of a fillet mignon they will not be able to fully enjoy the pasta it would be way to filling.

So either the salmon or a simple pasta.

Hope that helps
Good luck with the wedding Best wishes

I have experience with selecting meals for large groups of people. In order to please everyone stay away from seafood. You'll be safe with a beef & chicken. If you'll be having a large group, be sure your caterer has a vegetarian selection. I personally like a good well done filet, but it's impossible to get a filet cooked well done anywhere other than at home. I don't like any type of seafood, so chicken or pasta is always appreciated if I have to eat anywhere. In general it is hard to find a seafood that everyone likes.

ok girl...lets chat...i aint gonna sugar coat ya...the only thing i saw on there that would fit would be crab cakes....your wedding should be about the love...the dress... and the cake...a pretentious menu is a big turn off...cant go wrong with filet or crabcakes but all the sauces and different veggies and additives are too much...i had a lady order ribs and they sat there because no one wanted to get dirty in there nice clothes...minimal is best...if it was the rehearsal dinner I'd say knock yourself out...but make it about you baby!although we do always make a couple of veggie plates..and kids menus....chicken strips are always a favorite;-)

I had three choices at my wedding: steak, a fish and a chicken. Is is a lot of extra money to be able to offer a third dish? I sent a small 'menu' in my invtations where people picked ahead so I was able to have a choice of three for no additional money since the place knew upfront basically how much of each to make/order. (They also had enough for people to change their minds from their original choice.) I would ask if this is an option at your reception location. Sounds like you have a lot of nice entrees to choose from! If you cannot have three options, I would go with a chicken dish (Tuscany sounds great).
