What is the order of ingredients when making bread in a bread maker?!

Question: I have borrowed a bread maker and don't have the recipe book, and all recipes say 'follow the order recommended by the manufacturer'. So my question is, what goes in the machine first, second etc..... Actually, I'm making bagel dough, if that makes any difference to your answer. thanks

the usual order is liquid, flour, and yeast. later add the goodies (raisins, chocolate chips, dried onions etc.). HOWEVER-i once put everything in, in the right order, and discovred that i had not put the paddle in he bottom. scraped everything out. put in the paddle, everything back in, worked out beautifully. you can also add the yeast to the water, if the water isn't too hot, and add the flour on top. if you use your head, breadmakers are adaptable.
it amazes me that the recipes always call for warm water, but then they have a delay cycle. hasn't anyone figured out that after sitting in the breadmaker for hours the water is no longer warm. the warm water is supposed to be for the yeast to grow in.
exactly how does that work?

Try searching the net for the manufacturer of the machine. Many put instruction manuals on their site.

Mostly you want to do your dry then add your wet. I am sure they have online guides.

all liquid first then put the flour over the liquid to make a dry barrier then add the yeast, don't let the yeast get wet. Then turn on the machine.

The way mine works is to put the liquid (and oil/butter) in first, then all the dry ingredients, then make a little dimple in the top and put the yeast in the dimple. So it's liquid, dry, and finally yeast.

Always put in the liquid followed by the dry. I have checked this on half a dozen machines.
