Answers: something out of the ordinary besides just nuts, dried fruit, etc

Here is a recipe for Puppy Chow Mix..it also goes by other names, but it is different and yummy.

Chocolate Puppy Chow
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups Chex honey nut snack mix
2 cups Chex sweet and salty snack mix
cup thin pretzel sticks, broken into 1-inch pieces
1 cup salted cashews
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
PREPARATION:
Pour snack mixes, pretzels, and cashews into large bowl. Set aside. Using a double boiler on the stove or the microwave, melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter, stirring to combine. Add vanilla and mix until smooth.
Pour chocolate mixture over cereal, turning over gently until all pieces are evenly coated. Pour mixture into large plastic bag (a cooking bag works well) with the powdered sugar. Seal and shake until all the pieces are well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool.

ENJOY!!!

well, when i think of trail mix that's what I think of, nuts, dried fruit, maybe some chocolate pieces and granola. But you can add whatever dried fruit and nuts you like, make like a Hawaiian trail mix with dried banana, mango, pineapple and macadamia nuts. If you go to a health food store (we have Trader Joe's and Whole Foods around here) they'll have lots of varieties for nuts and dried fruit.

You can make great, better, cheaper trail mix out of whatever dry snack foods you like.

One of my faves is:
1 cup peanuts
1 cup raisins
1 cup m&m candies
1 cup granola cereal

My kids hated the raisins so we left them out of a batch for them and added penut butter chips.

Experiment and have fun!

pretzel (sticks, twists, or circles)
cereal (granola or broken granola bars, chex squares, or crispix)
coconut
seeds (sunflower and/or pumpkin)
dried fruit (banana, papaya, apple, raisins, and/or craisins)
nuts (cashews, pecans, walnuts, almonds, and/or pine nuts)
goldfish crackers or other small cheese cracker

Toss with honey and cinnamon for a sweet mix or garlic powder, cumin, pepper, etc for a spicy mix. Spread out on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees stirring every so often until golden (up to 1 hour).

chocolate chips, white choc chips, maybe some caramel...or those little marshamallows, and maybe some coconut...

Crushed up Wheat Thins
Cheese-It's
Honey Pretzels
Small Marshmellows
Raisins
Sun Chips-French Onion Or Harvest Cheddar
