Sugar cookies.. what should I do to enhance them... to make them not so plain?!

Question: I have one of those rolls of sugar cookies from Pillsbury... I usually bake my own cookies from scratch, but my sister brought that the last time she visited... now I have it there and I don't know what to do with it because I think sugar cookies are really plain.. what can I do to them so that they're not so plain?

I will choose the best answer asap.

Thank you very much in advance!

I splash extra vanilla in mine, then after placing them on the pan I add my mixture of cinnamon and sugar (just mix a small amount of cinnamon to about double the amount of sugar and stir well). Taking a back of a fork imprint the tines, turn cookie and do it again the other direction (so you have a nice plaid design). Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture
in to the plaid creases you made, then bake. They are so delicious, ya better make a bunch!!!

Zest about a half of lemon into the dough! or add a bit of almond extract (about a tsp). That should add some flavor to them!

Try buttercream icing....sprinkles...add some cinnamon and sugar on top...any of these will work

i think its always fun to add icing to them, sprinkles, sugar, all that fun stuff :) good luck

You could sprinkle them with sugar before you bake them, or ice them afterwards. I glop a whole ton of icing on mine and they're delicious!

megan is right on--citrus goes really well with sugar cookies; i've done both orange and lemon with great results.

or you can bake it, crush the cookies, and use it as a basis for a crumb crust...really, really good on cheesecake and pudding pies.

add extra ingredients to the dough (candy, nuts, raisins, chocolate or white or other chips, coconut, etc.):
In a large bowl, break up the cookie dough. Add the desired ingredients and mix well. Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake according to package directions.

put some frosting and sprinkles in a design on top.

Cream Cheese Frosting

This is a wonderfully creamy frosting that goes well on cookies, or between cookies. If you want chocolate frosting, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup cocoa, according to how rich you want it.

PREP TIME 10 Min

INGREDIENTS
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, cream together the cream cheese and butter until creamy. Mix in the vanilla, then gradually stir in the confectioners' sugar. Store in the refrigerator after use.

Try cream of tartar. It's in any spice aisle at a grocery store. Adds a little acidic tang to the cookie.

Add chocolate chips. If you have kids, let them make designs in the cookies with sprinkles, chocolate chips, food coloring and M&Ms. Use cookie cutters or make your own shapes.

Because it is a sugar cookie dough in a roll you can't really mix anything in.How about after cutting the dough and putting on baking sheet, pressing in some M&M's or choc. chips or raisins,or nuts,or candied fruit, etc...... You get the picture.

I had a similar situation last week......

I have a mini muffin pan. I pressed dough into each well and formed a little cup..

I put in Smuckers Caramel topping in the bottom of each cup, Then I added nuts and chocolate chips..

I also made some with different kinds of Jam in them.

They were different and a big hit! Good luck !!!

Add a dash of lemon juice or a bit of grated lemon rind.

Frost with white or chocolate icing and sprinkle with colored sugar sprinkles.

Dust with icing sugar

Add some mint or almond flavored icing

Make some yellow and black icing. Cover with the yellow and use a cake decorating icing tube to make smiley faces with the black (or any other dark color)

Before baking them, push some chocolate chips in the top. You can make intials, smiley faces, whatever.

Add some almond flavoring right to the dough before baking.

Stir in some chocolate chips, chopped nuts, and chopped caramel pieces. (Or a crushed Twix bar)

You could also put then in mini muffin tins and add bits of a peanut butter or mint cup. SOOOOO good!!

sprinkle in Cinnamon sugar before you bake or while still warm

add some fresh orange juice. should give it a kick.
