Seasoning a steak?!
Answers: How do you prepare a steak for the grill.. What do you season yours with. Im looking for something new, I always do i the same way. Marinate in a freezer bag and let it sit.. what else can I do?
I always use Mccormick Montreal Seasoning, by far my favorite. stab steak with a fork and you can pour some of this on, I also let mine sit in a freezer bag with the seasoning on it as well as some worstershire sause or some bullseye steak sauce, always a good flavor.. If you have a steak from a butcher, you don't always need to Marinate it, good steaks naturally have the flavor already in them. Good luck and happy grilling.
Marinate with olive oil and vinegar for about 1 hour at room temperature. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder just before grilling. Turn only once, using tongs, not a fork. Let rest after cooking at least 7 minutes before cutting.
I swear by Montreal Steak Seasoning made by the McCormick company! It is a dry steak seasoning that you just sprinkle over your steak and you can find it in the spice aisle of your grocery store along with other steak or hamburger seasonings!
I have tried EVERY OTHER seasoning, marinades, rubs, etc and NOTHING compares to the Montreal Steak seasoning, trust me! ;-)
Real easy, and works well, garlic salt and pepper both sides of steak, then marinade in Worcestershire Sauce for half an hour. Don't leave it in the fridge, all red meat should be room temp before cooking, then hot as the grill will go.
I stab it with a fork a few times to let the stuff soak in and put on-
Soy Sauce and Montreal Steak Seasoning
Sometimes I may throw some of these on it as well.
Worchestershire Sauce
Italian Dressing
Hot Sauce
I let it sit for as long as I can, then throw it on the grill!
STEAK SEASONING MARINATE
1/4 cup black (course) ground pepper
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup garlic powder
2 tablespoons paprika
1/4 cup onion powder
2 tablespoons MSG (can omit) meat tenderizer
2 tablespoons seasoning salt
1 tablespoon celery salt
Combine ingredients.
Rub 1/2 cup of seasoning per 10 lbs. meat. Rub and massage seasoning in with soy sauce after all wet, work the seasoning in very well! Keep adding more seasoning until you have the amount needed. Place in refrigerator and let seasoning soak into meat for 24 hours before cooking.
Never marinate a good cut of steak. You break down the meat and the natural flavors. Winnie is right, Montreal Steak Seasoning is the best. If I'm out of Montreal I use, Seasoned Salt, garlic powder, fresh pepper, and basil...yes basil. Dry rub the steak let sit in the fridge for 20 minutes then grill.
If you have a tougher cut of meat, then you should marinate it. I like fresh garlic, olive oil, a bit of balsamic vinegar, a touch of soy sauce, a squeeze of lemon, and fresh herbs (that you like). Mix and taste the marinade BEFORE you put the meat in so you can make adjustments.
If you have good cuts like filet, sirloin, NY strip, Delmonico, then go with a DRY RUB. Garlic powder, onion powder, a touch of sugar (help the meat to caramelize), pepper, and plenty of salt. Rub it into the meat. Cook for the least amount of time that you can stand. I personally like rare.
Whether it's dry rub or marinade, let the meat get down to room temperature. Never throw a steak right out of the fridge onto the grill! And let the grill heat up properly before putting the meat on. Flip once, and don't stab the meat!!! Let it rest for 5 minutes before cutting into it.
agree with stuartc. garlic, salt and pepper, worchestershire is tops. however we pierce with a fork and season with above, then add some tenderizer just in case the meat should be tough. even if you fork out big bucks on a prime cut, they are a disappointment if they turn out tough. at any rate, it doesn't hurt! my husband is a butcher's son and this is easy, gives best flavor enhancement to the meat without making it taste like something it is'nt. we have not changed our recipe in 35 years!
I use Dale's seasoning and and mccormicks grill seasoning. I think it's called grill mates it's really good.
I actually like steak and only use a bit of Kosher salt on each side as the seasoning, brings out the flavor of the meat! If you want another taste, don't marinade, just dash some Lee & Perins Worchestershire sauce on each side as it cooks or, put little slits diagonally on each side and salt lightly with Kosher salt. As it cooks, splash on some teriyaki sauce for a nice "Diamond" steak.
I don't have steak very often. When I do grill a steak, I want a beautiful piece of meat medium rare. I just season with a little salt and pepper and maybe rub the meat with minced garlic. I want to enjoy the flavor of beef.
Marinades are for chicken.
i take the steak put it in a plastic container put wishtashire, teriaki, and montreol steak seasoning the longer u let it sit the better it taste
