Canning ???!

Question: who here does their own canning ?

Answers: who here does their own canning ?

Been canning as far back as I can remember: pickles, jelly, corn, field peas, snap beans, squash, tomatoes, figs, okra, lima beans, bbq sauce, and too many others to list. I'm 42 and grew up in Louisiana, so canning is a way of life for us. Nothing better.

I don't do a lot but make tomato ginger jam & peach chutney.

I've done some but not in recent years

I've never done it by myself but have helped a few people. Green beans, peaches and applesauce. It's hard work but a lot of fun when you do it with friends....

I do every year
salsa ,tomatoes, jellies & fruit spreads, pickles
I usually spend 2-3 weeks canning durring the late summer to early fall

I do! We can Green beans, tomatoes, beats, corn
basically everything but meat goes into our canning room.
Its is better for you, and my kids love the veggies darning the winter months

I do. I usually put up jams, green tomato relish, beets, corn relish, salsa and homemade ketchup. I also make applesauce and freeze it. When it comes to vegetables, I tend to blanch them and freeze them because I run out of canning jars every year. We have a local fair in the fall and I usually enter my goodies in the canning competition.

I do some marmalade in winter....

When my kids were living at home we did lots of canning. With just hubby and I here we don't do as much. Ever now and then one of the kids will come home and ask "Mom do you have any of you home made spaghetti sauce?" Or whatever they are craving.

I do. My Mom & Dad raised a big garden and we canned nearly everything. Now we've gotten older, and our families are stretched out across the country and we don't can as much. We make several huge pots of vegetable soup (corn, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, celery, green beans, potatoes, peas, etc.) and can it in quart jars for use during the winter. I like to add extra potatoes and cooked sausage to the soup after we open the jar. Served with baked or fried cornbread, and you have a feast!
