Answers: I was wondering if there is a such thing as colored ribbon that I can put on a cake that you can eat? If I have to use "real" ribbon how would I go about cutting and serving the cake?

Hi, you can use both, but for a cake like this it's better to use a real ribbon, it's simple and elegant, I prefer to use the real one because it's mach with the real colour of the dress for example. It's easy too to take out because you can glue it with eggs white, or a Little icing, or soften fondant.
From the picture provided I believe that it is actual ribbon that has been place around each layer. You would remove each ribbon prior to cutting the layer of cake. The ribbon was placed after the cake was covered in fondant so in removing it you will not remove that portion of "frosting". As one other respondant stated, the ribbon would be held in place with a small amount of frosting
you can use hard icing or cashew icing (cashewnut ground fine with icing sugar ,add required colour and roll out in shape of ribbon and bow)
