I make mine with 1 lb of ground beef or turkey your choice, and when it is browned i drain it and add 2 cans of chicken gumbo and salt and pepper and it is really good and nutritious and our family prefers it this way next to manwich...

my Mother's recipe from 1950's:
brown ground chuck and minced onions, add flour to coat, mix in catsup.
Love on a bun
chicken gumbo and hamburger
Mine are called Sloppy Scotty's.
Ground beef
onion
and 3 to 5 different peppers hot or mild
ketchup
BBQ sauce
splash of cider vinegar
salt to taste
simmer all for an hour or so. leftovers are even better over pasta
I take ground beef a pound to 1.5 lbs and brown it with some chopped onion, diced green or red bell pepper and minced garlic. Then I add in tomato ketchup and a little water, stir. I then add in some mustard and brown sugar. Let it cook until bubbly. It should be a nice rich and thick mixture to spoon onto your hamburger buns. Remember to test for salt and pepper.
SLOPPY JOES

Brown hamburger with onion and green pepper. Drain off grease. Add remaining ingredients and simmer slowly to desired thickness and flavor.
