No you can't really make it at home but you can eat foods that are just as good if not better than buying powdered protein.

The best powdered protein, as any bodybuilder will tell you, is whey protein. You can get powdered egg-whites and skimmed milk powder which is high in protein but the only people who need it are athletes to build their bodies and repair tissue.

It's usually whey powder or soy powder. Just eat some cottage cheese or tofu. Protein (and all other nutrients) are better absorbed through food. If you want a lot of protein try those South Beach diet meals.

You can make a Hippie version of protein powder. Mix together 1 part each of:

Flax Seeds
Raw Pumpkin Seeds
Raw Almonds
Raw Sunflower Seeds

Grind in a food processor, or better yet, run them through an old fashion style coffee grinder. The kind with a hand crank.

This protein powder is great for vegan/vegetarians. Sprinkle it on anything or stir it into smoothies. It is supposed to support prostate health in men, also.
