How to make a good cake that taste homemade?!

Question: I have cake mix (from the box) and whenever I go to bake a cake it doesn’t taste homemade. Is there anything I can add or do differently to make my box cake taste more homemade??

I dont want to make it from scratch.

Thanks!

They this never fail chocolate cake recipe...
DARN GOOD CHOCOLATE CAKE
1 package of Devils food or dark chocolate fudge cake mix
1 package of Devils Food or chocolate fudge instant pudding mix (3.9 oz)
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups semisweet chips

Place rack in middle of oven and preheat to 325. Mist and flour your pans.

Place cake mix, pudding mix, sour cream, water (or milk instead), oil and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer on low for 30 seconds - 1 minute. Stop the machine and scrape down the sides. Increase mixer to medium and beat 1 1/2-2 minutes. (really, only beat it until it is combined). The batter should look thick and well combined. Fold in the chips, making sure they are well distributed throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into the pans and smooth with a rubber spatula.

Bake the cake until it springs back when lightly touched and it starts to pull away from the pan - about 28-35 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool 10 minutes in pan and then turn out onto a cooling rack.

If you want the chips to stay suspended in the cake, you could also toss them with a little flour before putting them in. I've never had to do that, but other people have said that their chips sink. If you want the chips to melt, use the mini's.

You can add a block of cream cheese or a pint of sour cream. Also, add in some vanilla extract - 1 or 2 tsp. Those things help it to taste more unique and really really good.

Making home made frosting is very easy and it tastes much better than store bought. Making a homemade cake is super easy too. You can also add a package of dry pudding to your mix and that will give it a little extra something.

All my cakes taste homemade because they are made at home. Very few I make from scratch anymore. My family doesn't know any differerence except that the scratch cakes don't always look as good as the cake mixes.

Many years ago the packaged mixes weren't anywhere near as good as they are now. Packaged are practically no fail and I don't worry about having all the necessary ingredients on hand to make a cake from scratch.

This recipe is for Gooey Butter Cake... (Paula Deen)
It is sooo good and very Homeade-esque....

Cake
* 1 (18.25-ounce) box yellow cake mix
* 1 egg
* 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
Filling
* 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
* 2 eggs
* 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
* 1 (16-ounce) box confectioners' sugar
* 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
2. In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well. Pat into the bottom of prepared pan and set aside.
3. Still using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese until smooth; add eggs and vanilla. Dump in confectioners' sugar and beat well. Reduce speed of mixer and slowly pour in butter. Mix well.
4. Pour filling onto cake mixture and spread evenly. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Don't be afraid to make a judgment call on the cooking time, because oven temperatures can vary. You want the center to be a little gooey, so don't bake it past that point!
5. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. Cut into squares. Just remember that these wonderful little cakes are very, very rich, and a little will go a long way.
