Always Enjoy!

have you tried just shortbread...
once cooled you could make a face with icing and sweets
Yea! Bake sprinkles inside white cake and ice the cakes in white icing with food coloing mixed in each!
I love the idea but be careful with this. Kinders are at a funny age where they don't like their food being messed with. I would keep it simply frosted individual cakes.
Here's an excellent one that I always loved when I was a kid:
mix the cake batter as the box states, pour the batter into flat bottomed ice cream cones (about 2/3 full).
Place them on top of cookies sheets and bake as the box directs for cupcakes. When they come out, frost them with colorful icing, top with fun sprinkles and a red candy on top to look like a cherry.
YUM!!
What vic said. Kids don't like crap like shortbread. Keep it simple and just put some brownie mix in the cups with chocolate frosting on top or a betty crocker type mix with frosting. Most (if any do) aren't even going to notice the heart shape anyway.
Try putting fruit, like strawberrys or something.
Look on Bettycroker.com and look at the dalmation cupcakes. THEY ARE GREAT! So easy to make and would be soo cute in the heart cups. I've made them for so many birthdays! There is a filling inside!!!

Dirt pudding. It's funny & delicious. You can search for the correct way to prepare it, but it consists of pudding, oreos, & gummy worms. It's always a delicious hit! I loved it as a child.
You can't beat a basic Victoria Sponge recipe and then adapt it.
