Have you used applesauce in place of eggs??!
Answers: I've heard that you can use applesauce or tofu to replace eggs in recipes...has anyone used applesauce to replace the eggs in brownies?? How did they turn out?
I have substituted apple sauce for eggs before and it worked out fine. But you can't just add applesauce, you have to add baking powder with it.
The Ratio to replace 1 egg in a recipe is as follows:
1 egg- 1/4 cup applesauce PLUS 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
2 egg- 1/2 cup applesauce Plus 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
Etc.
The baking powder is the key, it must be used with the applesauce.
Good Luck!
ohhhhh dont do that its a myth i tried it for the school bake sale DIDNT WORK one person threw up no lie!
eewww no
I use applesauce as a fat substitute all of the time in baked goods. But, I usually use it to replace butter, shortening, or oil (not eggs). When I first try to modify a new recipe, I'll replace 1/2 of the butter or shortening with half as much applesauce. Usually I get very good results.
I often reduce the number of eggs, or the number of egg yokes, or use egg substitute. This will help if you're trying to reduce the fat or cholesterol from the eggs.
If you need to get rid of the eggs entirely--I'm afraid I can't help. I've never tried it.
In the right recipe, this can work nicely. However unless you know the chemistry behind baking i wouldnt go replacing eggs with applesauce in you fave recipes... search on the internet for recipes with applesauce for better results
No, but apple sauce is used as a substitute for oil/crisco when baking.
Applesauce can be used to replace the vegetable oil in a baking recipe. I have used applesauce in place of vegetable oil in cake recipes a few times and they turned out just fine.
For chocolate recipes try pureed prunes in place of the oils.
no, you can use applesauce instead of OIL but it won't be the same.
I use applesauce a lot when I'm out of eggs and don't want to make a trip to the store. Your baked goods are a little more likely to stick to the pan so be sure an grease or "pam" your pans well. Be sure and add a little baking powder to the applesauce like nygirl says and your brownies should turn out just fine...
Good Luck
Yes, and it works fine. Be sure to get the unsweetened sauce though. Read those labels!!!
