World's Best Lasagna

It takes a little work, but it is worth it.

INGREDIENTS
1 pound sweet Italian sausage
3/4 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (6.5 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
12 lasagna noodles
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS
In a Dutch oven, cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes. Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil: to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese.
Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 25 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

The recipe on the back of the American beauty Lasagna package is a good one. That's what I started out with and just evolved it into my own from there. (added my own special touches such as different kinds of cheeses, meats.) You also might try looking on Foodnetwork.com and type it in under recipes. It will give you lots of ways to make it and also tells you the difficulty level in making it.

use barilla no cook lasagna noodles, brown meat with chopped onion and green pepper. layer noodles, ricotta cheese, meat mixture, sauce, mozzarella cheese. continue layers to desired thickness.

Check out the italian section of the market, allrecipes.com and cooks.com. You should find some easy things there. Good luck!

I am not sure what your cooking skill is, but lasagna is fairly simple.

I boil lasagne noodles, by following the directions on the box. While this is happening, I do the following:

I sautee about 1/2 a medium onion, diced, in a frying pan with with about 1 cloves of crushed or sliced garlic, and then I will add bulk Italian sausage (the stuff that is not in the casings) and fry it with ground beef, seasoning it with a little a dash (about 1/2 teaspoon dry) of basil and oregano, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste.

After the meat is cooked through and browned, I add 3/4 of a large bottle of tomato sauce or I will add about 3 cups of home-made tomato sauce to it, bring it to a boil and let it simmer on the stove for about 15-25 minutes over low to medium low heat.

I then mix a 15 ounce container of ricotta with a raw egg and about half a cup of finely diced parsely.

I start with a layer of noodle, side by side, I sprinkle a little bit of mozzarella cheese, I spread a layer of the ricotta, then sprinkle a little more mozzarella, then more noodles, then the meat sauce, then noodles, then cheese, etc, to the top layer, which is just noodles, which I sprinkle cheese all over, and then I bake the entire deal at 375 for 45 minutes to an hour or until the entire thing is bubbling, but not burnt.

I use the extra tomato sauce as garnish, and pour it over the top after heating it.

Honestly I just use the recipe on the back of whatever box of lasagne noodles I have in the house. It's really a simple recipe to make so I just use what they have on there already.

Three Cheese Lasagna.... ...
You will need Provolone cheese, Ricotta cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
You will need your spaghetti sauce and ground beef ( can be in the sauce or separate from the sauce).
You will do your spaghetti sauce early in the day, you can put the meat in the sauce or do a layer of berger after the sauce - it is good both ways. I am writting this thinking you will not put the meat into the sauce but will want a separate layer of meat.
As time approaches you want to cook the meat and lasagna noodles.
when it is all done you will have your sauce, your meat, and noodles before you. You will have your three cheeses before you too. Now you will assemble the casserole.

To assemble, layer
sauce - berger--ricotta-provolone-parmesan-noodl... You want to finish on parmesan cheese and shoot for three or four layers only.
