Pot roast are a great cheap meal that can be made to a gourmet meal... There are a lot of different styles. The most popular one is Yankee Pot Roast... Slow cooked for 4 hours @ 325 .
here is what you do: take your meat rub it with salad oil then take some garlic cloves cut into chunks taking a knife cut little slits and place garlic in there. then add salt & pepper put in either roasting or slow cooker (better in in slow cooker) next cut carrots, onions clerly in big chunks, add water about half covering meat.. After time of cooking up take meat out let rest, remove veggies and then reduce the gravy. I like to add some tomato paste to the gravy. you got a meal fit for a king
GOOD EATS my friend

add beef cubes. or beef broth.
yum

Add potatoes, mushrooms, onions, and carrots!!!

wow i hope you have a large family where are the potatoes and onions and carrots and and is this roast to big for a slow cooker? and you put in the roast in early in the morning

Red wine always helps. Carrots too. Add carrots in the beginning, 20 min before done take them out and throw them away, they have given up their flavor. Add new ones and serve these with the roast.

For a real tender pot roast either add 1/2 cup of white vinegar with some garlic.. or take a bottle of Italian salad dressing.. shake well and pour the entire bottle over the meat. (an alternative do the same with a bottle of Catalina dressing) Its' incredible and my husband loves it!

Add some dry Lipton onion soup. After it cooks in the slow cooker for about 4 hours. Add quartered potatoes and carrots. Server with fresh italian bread and real butter.

You should have browned it first after dredging in flour and seasoning, then added water to the pan you used. Then transfer roast and liquid to the slow cooker. Put in onions in large pieces at the beginning; later, add carrots, potatoes and, if you like it, some turnip for extra flavor to the gravy.

you can use about what ever you like

You should braise the meat first. Put some butter (or olive oil) in a frypan, and sear the roast on all sides first. This will sear in the juices. Put in your spices in the bottom. Garlic, bay leaf, salt, basil, bullion cubes and a little bit of pepper; and about 2 cups of water. Then put your onions, potatoes, carrots and celery if you have any. Put the meat on top and cook on high for about five hours or until the temp gets to about 150, then turn on low to continue the rest of the cooking. Good luck!

What they said. I've used red wine - but found different results - and also like beer as a base along with seasonings and broth. Worchestershire sauce, the onion soup mix, sweet onions vs regular, potatos, carrots, ... or carrots and add peas at the end and cook buttered noodles to go on the side. Let the cooker do it's thing. Explore!

I put potatoes, carrots and onions in the bottom and the roast on top. Add seasoning and a little water maybe 1/4 cup and cook. The veggies with make liquid too. I don't brown the meat first that is defeating the purpose of the crockpot to me. I use the juice as is not made into a gravy.

Might I suggest find a good recipe? 8lb@$3.00 lb for meat and 8+hours time. Try Food Network, Epicurious or a Slow Cooker site.

I like to cut a few small slits in it and add rosmary and thin slices of garlic as well as the usual veggies

i use beef broth i've even used an injecter and put in some broth boiled with garlic when i've forgotten

I add a can or bottle of any beer you have!!!! I also add Lipton Soup mix-onion or Savory herb and garlic mixed with some water and pour over it! I put carrots, celery, cut onion in halves, and potatoes cut in half! You already put it in slow cooker but I put it in a large roaster pan and put the pot roast with the carrots and potatoes around it in one of those big turkey bags and it comes nice and moist!!! YUMMY!!
