Split Pea soup recipe?!

Question: I haven't made pea soup in a long time , I use to use the recipe that came on the back of the bag of dried split peas.

I bought the only brand my store had and it didn't have the recipe.

Does any one know this recipe?..This is the one I want to make.

Dice up some ham or sausage(do not use pork hocks) about 8 link sausage or 6 sausage patties or 1/4 to 1/2 lb. of ham. Put it in a pot with 3 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil. Add 1 whole yellow onion. Add 3 diced carrots. Saute until onions become transparent. Add whole bag of split peas. add enough water to cover everything plus two inches. Cook on medium heat for 30 to 40 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

that's easy. just bring 2 quarts of water to a boil with one pound of rinsed split peas. boil for about 10 minutes, and let sit for an hour. Then simmer with a meaty ham bone until peas are tender. Add 1 chopped onion, remove bone, and take off meat. when onion is soft, add the meat, and salt and pepper to taste. one note( I learned the hard way) do not use whole dried peas, only split dried.

I make it two ways, one with a ham hock and one without,
I basically cook them the same but one is not cooked with ham hock.

I let the peas stand in a bowl of water overnight.

I use about 2 onions and 3 - 4 carrots.

Boil ham in water, when meat is falling of the bone I take the hock out of the water and add all the other ingredients. Bring to the boil, and simmer until very tender, I blend it until smoothish, then put the shredded ham back into the soup.
Then serve it up with crusty bread.

If I make it without the ham, I use some chicken stock for added taste.

Spit Pea Soup

1 lb dried split peas
1 meaty ham bone, ham hocks, or smoked turkey leg
1 med onion, quartered
2 med carrots, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 bay leaf
2-3 whle cloves
3-4 quarts beef broth, chicken broth, water or combination of
broth and water

Sort split peas removing any foreign objects and dirt. Rinse under running water in sieve.

Place ham bone in soup kettle, add liquid, chopped vegetables, and bay leaf. Stud 1/4 of onion with cloves and add all onion to pot. Add split peas and stir well. Place over med high heat and bring to rolling boil. Stir, reduce heat and cover. Simmer about 1 hour or until the peas are tender. Remove ham bone from pot, remove meat and cut into bite size pieces. Return about 1/4 of the meat to pot and using hand blender blend until peas and vegetables are pureed. Return remainder of meat to pot, adjust seasonings to taste. Heat to simmer and serve. If you prefer you can leave the peas whole rather than pureeing or just don't fully puree soup. Some people like to add cream or milk to the servings.
