Bag recipe for split pea soup?!
Anyway, I use to use the recipe that was on the bag and I finally convinced him to let me make it, but the bag didn't have the recipe..!
Help! I've bought the dried peas, have the ham bone, carrots, celery, onions..do I need onions?..I can't remember...
Can you please give me the recipe and directions off the bag? it's been years since my last batch.
I searched and only came up with other peoples recipes, I'm just looking for this one simple one that use to come on the back of the bag.

This is a fairly simple recipe that I made last week. It's from a beginner's cookbook because the recipe didn't come on the back of my bag either:
1 lb. split peas
1 large onion, chopped
2 large carrots, thinly sliced
1 hambone, preferably with enough meat to make 1 1/2 cups
7 cups chicken broth or water
1 bayleaf
Add all ingredients to a large pot, bring to a boil and simmer 1-1 hour, 15 minutes. Remove bone and take off meat. Return meat to soup.
Enjoy!
It was yum-o
What brand of peas did you want the recipe for? Different brands have different recipes for the soup. This is the recipe on the bag for Jack Rabbit's green split peas.
1 (16 oz. pkg.) Jack Rabbit Green Split Pea Beans
3 quarts water
1 small ham shank
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 chicken bouillon cubes (or 2 Tbsp. instant chicken bouillon)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp oregano leaves
1/4 to 1/2 tsp pepper
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 cups thinly sliced carrots
1 cup chopped celery
In large deep pot, combine peas, water, ham shank, onion, chicken bouillon and seasonings. Simmer, uncovered, 1 1/2 hours.
Remove ham shank; trim meat off bone and return meat to pot. Stir in carrots and celery. Simmer, uncovered, an additional 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until soup reaches desired thickness.
This is the one I use - I hope it is what you are looking for and that it helps.
Split Pea Soup
Prep: 25 minutes
Cook: 1 hour, 20 minutes
Ingredients
12 cups water
1 lb. cooked boneless ham, chopped or 1 ham bone with meat
4-1/2 cups dry split peas, rinsed and drained
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1-1/2 cups chopped carrots (3 medium)
1-1/2 cups chopped celery (3 medium)
1-1/2 cups chopped onion (3 medium)
1-1/2 cups cubed potatoes (3 medium)
Salt and ground black pepper
Directions
1. In a 7- to 8-quart Dutch oven combine water, ham, split peas and pepper. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Uncover; stir in carrots, celery, and onions. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 20 to 25 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Season to taste with salt and black pepper. Remove bay leaves; discard. Stir to combine (mixture may appear separated). Serve immediately or cool for 30 minutes.
2. To freeze, divide cooled soup among three 2-quart (8-cup) freezer containers. Cover; label. Freeze up to 3 months.
3. To reheat frozen soup, dip the bottom of the container in hot water for 5 minutes. Transfer frozen soup to a large saucepan. Cook, covered, over medium-low heat about 30 minutes or until heated through, stirring occasionally. Makes 12 servings (or three 4-serving portions)
Ok It looks like you are on your way. If you can remember this takes a bit of time. what you got is fine
INGREDIENTS
2 1/4 cups dried split peas
2 quarts cold water
1 1/2 pounds ham bone
2 onions, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 stalks celery, chopped
3 carrots, chopped
1 potato, diced
DIRECTIONS
In a large stock pot, cover peas with 2 quarts cold water and soak overnight. If you need a faster method, simmer the peas gently for 2 minutes, and then soak for l hour.
Once peas are soaked, add ham bone, onion, salt, pepper . Cover, bring to boil and then simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Remove bone; cut off meat, dice and return meat to soup. Add celery, carrots and potatoes. Cook slowly, uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes, or until vegetables are tender. for a smoother texture use an immersion blender
if you want to substitue onions you can use onion powder my fiance does not like onions so i use onion powder use about 1 tablespoon per bag of peas
