Crab Cakes?!
My fiance is only use to eating crab cake sandwiches...(fancy..I know), but I want him to be able to truly appreciate them, without a roll.
What goes well with crab cakes? (veggie, starch..etc.), I'm thinking Mashed potatoes, and a garlic string bean??
Any advice on a sauce for the crab cake.....something easy, but wow??
Thanks in advance =)
All suggestions are welcomed!
Answers: I have crab cakes, that I bought at a butcher shop. I would like to cook them tonight, but I need your help!

Yummy crab cakes are my favorite! I used to live on the eastern shore so I had the luxury of having them often and now that I have moved back home to Detroit I make them myself. I think the beans are great idea any veggie would do. However I would stay away from the mashed for texture reasons maybe some diced seasoned potato's that you could roast in the oven or some sort or rice or risotto dish. Hope this helps Good luck.
they are also good over wild rice. a good sauce would be a spicy ranch, like outbacks
Mashed potatoes, and a garlic string bean are freakin good with this dish!
well I don't know because I don't eat crab cake so I really wouldn't know.
you cook them in extra virgin olive oil in a frying pan and what goes with them very good is
cream corn
coslaw
potato salad
or just a basic salad or cesar salad
yummo
I wouldn't put mashed potatoes w/ them... maybe a baked potato w/ toppings you can load yourself at the table.... or a rice pilaf.... green beans sounds good to me, but also broccoli, asparagus, roasted carrots....
Make a little remoulade sauce to dip the cakes into.... recipe below:
** Remoulade Sauce **
Mix all ingredients well and refrigerate until serving time.
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves
1/4 cup chopped green onions, white and green parts
1/4 cup finely chopped celery
1 clove garlic, minced
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice + zest of 1 lemon
1 teaspoon coarse-ground mustard
Few dashes Tabasco
Kosher salt to taste
Definitely mashed potatoes. I also love steamed carrots or broccoli with my crab cakes. The only sauce I like with my crab cakes it yellow mustard. lol I'm not a big fan of tarter sauce. A good crab cake doesn't need any sauce. I'm from Baltimore and we have the BEST crab cakes here. Mmmm Now I'm hungry!
I'm thinking that cole slaw might work, but I also agree with your menu suggestion. Pair them with some of his favorites and see what happens. I have made them for breakfast with hollandaise sauce, it works well. But experiment and come up with your own signature dish. Good luck.
it depens on how you cook them fryed with french fries and pickels cocktail sauce i'm from baltimore i know crab cakes
Try Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, 1-Cup Crab Meat, 1-Cup Chopped bacon, Hollow out Portebello Mush, 1/2 Cup Onion, Season w/ garlic and pepper to liking 1-cup Shredded Chedder, Stuff Mush, Bake at 350 for 10min or until chesse melts, turn to spread more cheddar on tops and turn to broil until brown.
First of all, for a healthier choice, bake or broil them rather than deep fry. Serve with a rice pilaf, green beans ( are a good choice) and a side salad or Cole slaw.
Make an ailoi sauce with mayo., spicy or Dejon mustard, lemon juice and garlic.
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 small shallot, minced
1 small garlic clove, minced
pinch of kosher salt
teaspoon white wine
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon butter
Sauté shallot and garlic until shallot is translucent. Add wine to deglaze pan, allowing to reduce for 15 to 30 seconds. Add mustard and salt; bring to boil.
Remove from heat. Add butter
Or this,, this is really good
In small bowl mix: 1/4 c. catsup 1/4 c. minced parsley 1 tbsp. horseradish 2 tsp. white vinegar 1 tsp. grated lemon peel 1 tsp. hot pepper sauce
ENJOY!!
I would make butternut squash mashed potatoes instead of regular spuds.
Crab can be a bit bland so you want your other dishes to be interesting but not take away from crabs subtleties.
I would stay with the string beans.
I would make up a garlic cream sauce, something between tartar sauce and alfedo so your fiance can recognize them!
I would make a cheesey toast so he won't be without his bread during his first roll-less crab cake experience.
Try making a remoulade sauce for the cakes. It's a little nicer than tartar sauce. For a twist, add some cajun seasoning to it if you like something spicy.
For your starch and veg, how about sun-dried tomato risotto and fresh asparagus w/ lemon butter sauce?
smoked gouda cheese grits
garlic string beans would be great.
