Should you grease?!
Answers: a non-stick frying pan? I know what a waste of points, but my bf wanted to know if he should or not. Thanks for your answers.
If you like the flavor. Only thing about those non stick pans is that heat under them should not exceed medium.
High heat destroys those pans and will cause the non stick coating to migrate to your foods..
That's why I got rid of all our non stick pans and use either an iron skillet or stainless steel wok and pans..
I usually do so the food will brown nicely.
I do sometimes. It depends on the quality of the pan and sometimes I just want the extra butter flavor.
YES! the only way to keep a non stick... non stick is to keep it seasoned with oils. they are not truely non stick but it does not truely attract food like stainless steel do. always grease unless you want a burnt mess
I think you should, but just a touch. Use a non-stick cooking spray like Pam if you have it. Otherwise, just use a dab or olive oil or some other cooking oil. You can actually wipe it on with a brush or a paper towel.
won't hurt it at all..If you have butter flavored spray, even better flavor for what you are cooking....
at least spray with a non-stick spray like 'pam'.
hmm if you want to make sure it doesnt stick...yes...but if its nonstick u dont have to
I usually do, lightly
I have a hundred dollar pan that never, ever needs oiling. I have a couple of cheap ones from Wal Mart that need some sort of grease every time they are used. It's true, the quality of the pan determines the cooking method. I love my expensive pan, I make everything in it. Rachel Ray also has those big frying pans with the lids and uses them for everything from sauces to stews to soups, you name it.
It depends on what you're cooking. All foods need a cooking medium of some sort to transmit heat to the interior - either some sort of fat, or water. The non-stick thing is to make it easier to clean, not to make it possible to cook tasty food without fat.
If you are cooking bacon, or any other kind of meat that has fat in it, you don't need to grease the pan. The fat in the meat will melt (as long as you aren't using totally lean meat, which to my mind is a crime against meat) and the melted fat will help to give the meat a delicious and savoury crust.
If you want to fry an egg or cook a steak or chop, you will not get very good results if you don't grease the pan with something (I suggest extra virgin olive oil). A hot dry pan will simply burn those parts of the food that are in contact with the pan surface, while the other bits of the food will steam.
I suggest extra virgin olive oil as a cooking medium because, besides being delicious, it's the only fat that is arguably good for you, in that it contains compounds that help to reduce the bad kind of cholesterol in our bodies.
