Is it acceptable for a chef to put his mouth on food about to be served?!
Answers: I'm refering to a professinol chef in an upscale restaurant. It's a very small place and he often has to clean the dishes/utensals himself. I suppose thats why he takes these shortcuts. I must say he washes his hands all the time but his mouth comes into contact with food about to be served?
Maybe he's just trying to kiss the food?!?!
I don't like people kissing my food, or whatever he's doing to put his mouth in contact with it.
no and he would get shut down if caught doing so
usually, they always taste the food before it is served to make sure it doesn't need added seasoning (they do this with a clean utensil, of course). If they are using the same utensil to sample more than one dish, I'd say something.
okay where is this restaurant????
remind me to never go there.
Hmm.. if he is with a clean utinsil, testing the food (one sip off the spoone) then it would be acceptable, if he is doing it before it is placed on the serving plate. And that his sipping spoon isn't going back into the food to be served.
It's not acceptable at all if the chef wants to taste his creations he can have a special bowl or plate dedicated for his own personal tasting if his mouth is coming in contact with food he is serving his customers that can cause illness and plus it's just nasty.
When tasting the food, and the chef is supposed to, he uses a spoon or knife and fork and doesn't double dip.
I find it difficult to believe he would pick up a steak or piece of chicken and put his mouth to it prior to serving. I don't even do that in my own kitchen and I'm simply a cook.
thats just unsanitary, you could catch something, like if he was sick or something
he puts his mouth or fingers? that is weird why would he put his mouth on it? im confused.....could you edit the question with the answer?
Ew!! That's totally disgusting. I'm quite sure they weren't taught to do this in culinary school. Obviously chefs need to taste as they are cooking but that's what clean spoons or forks are for. And no double dipping with them either!!
Eww and a big No No with the food police.
