Round doesn't shred so well.
Normally brisket or chuck roast is the best for shredding.
I'd cook what you have for another hour, then let it cool completely in the crockpot. Just buy bbq sauce in a bottle, and use that.

I am in Kansas, where we have entire aisles of bbq sauce (it is the biggest thing going here). I like zarda's, johnnie's bbq, and Earl Quick's bbq sauces, but if your selection is limited, then buy KC masterpiece...I think it exists nationally.

try rachael ray

i have no idea

3 lbs? how about nine hours or something?

5 hours? What kind of beef did you use?

You could try adding more water to the croc pot, or some beef broth, perhapse it isn't moist enough to pull apart yet?

It usually takes about 10hrs before meat is soft enough to shred. good luck.

Wow, after 5 hrs it should be falling off the bone. Do you have enough water in there? Water should cover the meat when you put it in, then let it cook until the meat is falling apart. Drain, pull meat apart with forks or fingers, tip with favorite barbeque sauce, mix, put on your favorite buns.

Which cut of "roast" did you get
--------------------------------------...
and from what "animal"?

One might try paprika as an ingredient to make
your "beef" more receptive to "shredding" ... this has a
tendency to tenderize..... When are the guests expected?
Not tonight I hope.... bon appetite...

Directions:

Trim fat from beef and cut into 4 or 5 large chunks to fit in crockpot. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over beef.

Cook in crock pot for 8 to 10 (4 to 5 on high) hours on low. Pour juice into a small saucepan and simmer on the stovetop for 15 to 20 minutes to reduce and thicken. In the meantime shred beef with 2 forks or potato masher. Return thickened sauce to the beef in the crockpot. Keep warm and serve with buns and coleslaw.

Cook for about 2 1/2 hours longer.

I would say 5 hours isn't long enough and you will have better results if you cook on low. I do this all the time for my son. What cut of meat are you using? I make BBQ beef in the crockpot all the time. I use and eye of round that I rub a little olive oil on and then cover in a dry rub (I like Penzeys BBQ of the Americas) and let it go all day on low. About an hour before serving I add a cup of bbq sauce to my meat that is fork pull apart tender. I use Famous Dave's sauce but if that isn't available where you are, a good one that is national is Sweet Baby Rays.

Low and slow.

This is the recipe I use:

BBQ Beef Sandwich

1 4 to 5 lb. Roast Beef
1 Envelope of Onion Soup Mix
8 oz. of Ketchup
1 12 oz. Bottle or Can of Beer
1 Small Onion, Chopped

To crockpot, add your Onion Soup Mix, Ketchup, Beer and Chopped Onion. Mix well to blend together. Add your piece of Roast to the Crock Pot and turn in the sauce to cover. Put the lid on your Crock Pot and put on Automatic. Cook your Roast about 7 hours or till you can shred with a fork. Serve on Crusty Rolls.

Cook cooking. Leave it on low all night if it's still not ready tonight.
