Any tips for making Jambalaya?!

Question: I was going to use Zatarain's Jambalaya Mix since it already comes with the spices and then add in some seasoned chicken, sausage, celery, onions, and maybe shrimp. Any other tips out there for making this better?

Sure, try a little Cayenne pepper. And I mean a little, pinch or so, When you cook a Jambayla the first thing to do is brown your meat (no shrimp) first, remove from pot, brown onions, bell peppers, garlic, using Olive oil. Medium heat and stir alot. Cajuns stir alot. Dont; know why, but we do. Oh yeah, that's when you make a roux. Now, after all of that preparation, remember don't overcook the rice. Just enough water to keep it moist, not spongy. Never shrimp, only in gumbo's and stews.Chicken, yes.

add diced green and red bell pepper, garlic, a bay leaf if you have it, and some cayenne pepper.

saute your onions, celery, bell pepper and garlic in butter for about 2 minutes. Throw your meats in there and stir then add to the zatarains. This will ensure all the flavor of the vegetables permeate the dish.

I sometimes put a frozen mixed veggie in there. but what you have sounds ok.sautee the onions and celery before adding.

It has your meat , rice and vegetables all in one pan ....

6 chicken thighs 1 bell pepper
1pkg. sausage 1 c. rice
3 celery stalks 1 c. water
1 lg. onion 1 sm. beer

In a small amount of oil , brown chicken thighs , then remove and cook sausage , remove meat .. Add the onions , celery and bell pepper , saute . After vegetables are sauted , add the meat , rice , water and beer , mix together . Put the lid on , simmer untill rice is done ...

good luck
