I would probably saute the spinach in some bacon fat, or butter, and garlic first, but it would be up to you.

if you put it in uncooked you are going to get a lot stronger spinach flavor than you would cooked. Sauteed will be milder and slightly sweeter. Boiled or steamed will still be milder but will have a pronounced spinach flavor.

you could but why would you want to.... it will turn your soup muddy looking. Spinach is usually in a broth or clear soup... Once I added spinach to my bean soup and yuk... I turned an ugly gray

yes, I don't see why not make sure you drain the spinach of all the excess water first.

I would at least chop it. Then toss it in,it won't take long to cook. Good idea.
