Is there such a thing as long boil rice??!

Question: I have a sick dog and the Vet said to boil "long boil" rice for him. She said not to use Minute Rice or any other rice that takes 20 minutes to cook. Does anyone know where I can find rice that takes 1 hour to cook and the Brand Name??

Thanks!!

I have no idea what "long boil rice" is, but there is long grain rice. Long grain rice cooks like every other rice. Different rices have different cooking times but none of the refined rices I know of takes an hour to cook.

What she may mean and it is healthier for humans is brown rice. It takes roughly twice as long to cook as white rice.

You really should call her and tell her you don't know what she is talking about.

Good luck with your four footed critter. I love anything with four feet and a tail.

Just buy ordinary rice. Its called white long grain rice
Not par boiled or minute rice.
It usually only takes 20 minutes to cook it.
It is fluffier and stickier. Here is how:
Boil in a pot: This is very easy once you've done it once or twice. Simply add any amount of rice. Fill pot with water to 1/4 inch above the rice. Cover with a lid and bring to a boil over high heat. Once the water is vigorously boiling reduce heat to low and let cook until water evaporated. You should see holes forming and stream rising. Turn off heat and let stand 10-20 minutes. Flake with a fork, add flavour and serve.

brown rice of any brand (except minute rice) usually takes 45 min or so to be fully cooked. It is rice that still contains the hull (outer coating) so it is higher in fiber and takes longer to cook, as opposed to white or polished rice in which the hull is removed.
