Can you add color to store bought fondant?!

Question: I have seen the white Wilton's fondant. Can you add food coloring?

Answers: I have seen the white Wilton's fondant. Can you add food coloring?

There's two basic ways to do it:

1) Take whatever color you want (normally gel food colorings work best) and dab a toothpick into it. The larger amount of fondant you're trying to dye and the brighter you want it to be, the more food coloring you need. Dab it into the center of the fondant and keep kneading it until the color is spread evenly. It's tough at first but it gets softer and easier to knead eventually. It's also quickens the process if you keep stretching it out and then kneading it back together because that way the color spreads faster.

2) This is probably a lot easier, but the color turns out slightly different... Pour a small amount of vodka into a bowl and add the food coloring of your choice. Then, stir the color into it and basically paint the entire cake. (By the way, you're supposed to do this after the fondant is actually on the cake.) You can just use a regular small paintbrush or a blush brush. Vodka's good because it doesn't give any flavor or change the color of the food coloring like the alternative- lemon extract. Don't use water because it will dissolve the fondant.

Good luck!

Yes. You can knead colour into it and then roll it out again. It's very pliable like clay. Read the package for directions.

Yes, but you want to use powdered or paste color. Using the liquid can make your fondant to soft.
