Help with stacking cake?!
Answers: I'm building a Speake shaped cake. So my problem is stacking the layes of cake, Should I use dowel (is so, should i place them in every layer?) or should i use carboard things inbetween each layer?
There are many different methods for stacking cake layers. I am not sure what type rods you used, but small wooden ones work best for me. I use 3-5 depending on the amount of layers to be stacked on top. You can then use any type of cake board on top of those. Just simply look at you bottom layer while holding the next layer over it. Center and gently set the next layer on top. Continue this with all layers. You can also off-set your layers as is popular in many designs. Simply put your layers all the way to one side of the cake (like you are stacking them all against an invisable wall.)Some bakers prefer using plastic rods and plastic cake boards. If you chose that method, you will need to center your cake board exactly onto the plastic rods. There is no really easy way to do this other than with practice. Also, if you are transporting this cake, I recommend you do the assembly on site as a teired cake does not travel well. Good luck with the cake!
If the layers are connected, use dowels through whole cake.
Cardboard will spread the load, but make cutting trickier.
i only use dowels.the white plasic ones are best as you can cut them with a sharp knife to required size, and they are more hygenic than wooden ones ,
and they only sell plasic ones where i get my irems from, good luck.
p.s if you need any more info only to willing to help,
Use long wooden skewers, you can always break them to the sizes desired.
