Yes, you can add water. In fact, you'll probably have to. For some reason, pea soup just gets thicker and thicker. If you're reheating from a frozen block, put a bit of water in the pan first, add the frozen block, cover and heat gradually. Stir often (always with pea soup!) and add water as needed.

Sometimes i use potatoes, sometimes I don't. I prefer it without potatoes, but it depends on my mood. Potatoes actually make it a bit less "heavy"

yes, you can reheat it on the stove adding more water if needed. i have made split pea with potatoes or rice, and just plain. i think it's good all three ways...

1. I think that by adding water, you might dilute the soup and get a bit of a weak flavor. But you can do it..
2. Potatoes wouldn't greatly affect the floavor as much as it would affect the thickness of the soup..Split Pea isn't supposed to be a thick soup...

I have never used potatoes in mine.....
regarding reheating it...set it in a pan on the stove and put on low...

Before there were microwaves, there were frozen split pea soups and they heated well with some water. Use gentle heat and turn the ice block from time to time.
Or just leave frozen soup in the regular fridge for a day and then heat it up when it is soft. Will work smoother and faster.

When you add potatoes, the soup will have some more texture from the potato cubes.
If you blend it smooth, the taste of the soup may get somewhat smoother. Potatoes are also a great addition if food is a bit too salty.

You can freeze it, add a little water and heat it up on the stove, add anything you want to add to it, i add potatoes, carrots celery and herbs to it and it still comes out good, oh dont forget the onion and garlic when i am boiling my ham hock , before adding the peas and the rest. experiment and enjoy

Of course you can heat it on the stove (on "low") and add water.
No, don't use potatoes. My mother does and I don't like it. I put pig's feet in it and the collagen helps to thicken the soup, but you have to give it a chance to cool down.

yes, you can reheat on the stove. but I would remove it from the freezer and let it thaw over night i the fridge. then put on the stove top to warm through.

i have had potatoes in my split pea and I like it better. but it doesn't really change the taste difference. its more chunky than smooth and due to the starch in the potato, can make it thicker. i love potatoes in any form.

Colonists in the USA ate what is called Pea's Porridge. This is a very thick version of Split Pea Soup. Don't worry about the thickness reheat it on the stovetop on low. Poatatoes only thicken the soup. Not much noticeable difference in the taste.
