Question: its to feed five

Answers: its to feed five

Go for it!!

Something easy would be a spaghetti bolognese from scratch or perhaps a nice lamb stew with dumplings?

Five lamb chops and some neck of lamb (neck of lamb is quite cheap but give a lovely flavour - my mum only uses the neck, no chops at all)
1 Large Onion chopped
2 cloves of Garlic chopped
2/3 potatoes cut into chunks (not too small or they will disintegrate)
10 tablespoons Self Raising flour
5 tablespoons of shredded beef suet
1 stick of celery chopped
2 carrots sliced
salt and pepper
Handful of red lentils (Optional)
1 lamb or beef stock cube

1. Put the lamb in a large saucepan and cover them with water (about halfway up the pan). Crumble in the stock cube and add some salt - not too much but a good big pinch.

2. Bring the pot to the boil, turn down the heat to medium and simmer for 20 minutes

3. Add the chopped vegetables and simmer for another 20 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, in a bowl mix the flour and suet together with a pinch of salt and add enough water to make a dough. If you make it too sticky then just add some more flour until you get a workable dough forming.

5. Divide the dough into 10 pieces and roll each piece between your hands to make a ball. Roll each ball in some flour to coat the outside.

6. Turn the heat up again until the stew is bubbling really fiercely then drop in the dumpling balls. Boil them fiercely for about 5 minutes and then turn the heat down to a simmer again and simmer them for another 15 minutes.

7. Serve the stew with nice fresh bread for mopping up the juice.

Lovely and warming for a cold, rainy winter's night.

well, if mum or dad is there something like spag ball quick and easy and you can use a jar of sauce...always a winner

Good luck

How about a good scone recipe? (see link below)
Cute finger sandwiches also work well.

is this a full fledged meal or just like tea and bisquit affair?
Just make finger foods.. like anything you can pick up with fingers..like mini hotdogs inside croisant or bisquits (dogs in a blanket).. little pizza's.. (use bagels, or bagets and slice and put pizza topping on and put in oven till cheese melts)
make BBq'd chicken wings.. just bake the wings in oven in a little bbq sauce and serve with little forks.. same with meat balls or tiny mini hotdogs... make tea sandwiches with cream cheese and cucumbers, ham/cheese, things like this.. you can make mini cakes. take a store bought pound cake and cut it up into small portions and frost with store bought frosting.. decorate with mint leaves and dried fruit pieces.. or chopped nuts.. have a bowl of mixed salted nuts and mints on the table... make a plate of mixed chopped veggie pieces with some homemade dip (like 2 cups of plain yogurt with 1 sachet of dried onion soup mix)
offer tea, coffee, have sugar, sweetner, honey, creamer, skim milk, and whole milk on hand.... offer iced tea and lemonaide also for others..

scambled eggs on toast.
empty the eggs int a bowl, add milk, microwave for 3 mins, stir/beat lightly and repeat.

Have fun

Ayelet

Make some egg salad, tuna salad, and a cream cheese spread. Choose a firm white bread, brown bread (comes in a can near the beans in the grocery) and a dark bread such as pumpernickel. Spread each slice of bread with softened butter, then add a filling and top with another slice of bread. Cut into triangles or small rectangles and place on serving platter.

bake some sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies and or brownies. Just keep each one on the small side.

Serve with tea, cream, lemon, sugar and honey. Have a fun party.

Cream cheese spread: make the night before party.
8 oz cream cheese brought to room temperature
4 oz stuffed green olives, drained and chopped finely
a dash of Cayenne pepper
Mix together well and place in refrigerator covered. In the morning test for seasoning. Let sit at room temp for about 15 min before trying to spread on bread. This is very good on pumpernickel and/or white bread

Another variation would be to use orange marmalade instead of olives and do not use th cayenne pepper. Just mix the cream cheese and about 2 Tbls orange marmalade. Very good on the brown bread

Tuna Salad
Drain a can of tuna well, break up pieces, add chopped celery (very finely diced) about 1/2 tsp dill weed and 3-4 Tablespoons of mayonnaise. Mix well. There should be no large lumps of tuna or celery for tea sandwiches. Put on only buttered bread so the bread does not get "soaked"

Egg Salad
Hard boil 4 eggs, place in cold water to cool and peel off the shell. Cut in half and scoop yolk into bowl. Mash the yolks with a fork and add mayonnaise to make a smooth paste. Add 1/4 tsp dry mustard, a 1/4-1/2 tsp salt, and pepper to taste (I use white pepper) Finely chop the whites and add to the egg yolk mixture and stir well. If it appears to be too dry then add additional mayonnaise until a firm but spreadable consistancy. Adjust seasonings as needed.
