How much jalapeno to use for 2 pounds of protein?!

Question: I'm making a chili with fresh jalapeno but I don't know how much to use. I have one jalapeno. How spicy will the chili be if I mince and use the whole chili?

The heat is in the inside of the pepper.....

Add the white part and the seeds for more heat in your chili.

It just so happens that we made a large crock pot full of chili yesterday...... we used one Jalapeno pepper seeds and all..... it was great.... not too hot....not too mild... but of course the heat varies from pepper to pepper too.

really it depends on the pepper plant, the size of the pepper, and even the conditions it was grown under.

For Chili I generally use a pound of beef, and about 16 ounces (by volume) of beans. for that I will use two medium sized chili peppers. One fresno chili pepper, and one jalapeno. but I clean out the seeds and ribs to reduce heat because I also use Chili powder.

Do this.....cut the pepper up and remove all the ribs so you just have nice green (or red) outer skin and meat. Set them aside with the seeds. If a small piece of the rest burns your tongue, add half of the diced pepper (minus ribs and seeds) if not, add the whole thing (still minus ribs and seeds). about an hour before the chili is done, if it is still not hot enough for you, add some of the ribs and seeds.

I use 1 jalapeno pepper per pound of meat.
Chili using 1 pound of meat-1 jalapeno pepper diced small.

Fry the chile with the chopped onion when you cook it.

It really depends on the jalapeno. If you want it spicy, make sure the seeds and veins go into the chili too.

Make the chili, then cool it down, then taste it the next day reheated. If it still isn't spicy enough, add some dried powdered hot pepper like cayenne, and cook it another 15 minutes. (not chili powder...that isn't the same). Add a little at a time.
