Do you think it is possible to substitute blueberries for raisins in cookies?!

Question: I always make really good Oatmeal raisin cookies, and I was thinking about making them with blueberries instead of raisins just to change things up. Do you think they would be OK or do you think it would make a mess in my oven?

It sounds interesting. I think there would be a higher concentration of sugar in raisins so the cookies may not be as sweet. The blueberries will add more moisture too so you may want to cut down on liquid somewhere else. They work in muffins & pancakes, so they should be good!

  • If they are dried blueberries then they will work fine. Fresh or frozen blueberries contain to much juice and will make your cookie batter to thin and the cookies will spread out and be to thin after baking.

Don`t do it! Raisins are dried, and unless you sup dried for dried, it will not work. The consisitensty is all wrong, and finished product will be horrid. Use nuts instead.

It won't work because of the moisture content of the blueberries. That's not to say it is impossible, but it would take a bit of work to compensate for the excess moisture.

I thot it sounded yummy too!
however I made mine with bananas as well and made some good..whatever they were..next time I will
make the same ...whatever they were... in a pan
and spread them out like a bar and serve them with vanilla ice cream or put it in a bowl and pour milk on them :)
Have fun and I am going to give you a star for being creative :)

Only if they were dried, not fresh or frozen.
    Make some muffins, instead!

    Hi,
It is possible. Use dried blueberries if they are available, or you can roast a few yourself and use it in your cookies. The extra sweetness in raisins is because of the drying in them, the sweetness gets concentrated when dried. You can add a little honey to balance the sweetness if you feel the blueberries are not sweet enough. Honey oatmeal cookies are nice. Since you are already an expert in making oatmeal cookies, I am sure you will soon perfect the method of how to use blueberries instead of raisins.
In fact, blueberries will be more healthy for heart and they are also supposed to be good for men.
    Cheers..
