I typically use light brown sugar in any recipe calling for brown and never have a problem. You can put a touch of molasses in if you feel the urge. Here's a recipe I've done before that's yummy and is a good use for your ingredients. Just substitute the pecans for the macadamia:

improvise! & it all depends on what you want it to taste like. When recipes askes for a cup of sugar, I put half a cup. and it is just right.
i often change the sugar a recipe says, i think in this case they will probably just be lighter
I think light brown will be fine... if you don't like molassis, don't add it. you'll probably be better off taking a risk on the light brown sugar...
It really makes little difference in the recipe to use a lighter brown sugar, but I gave you a recipe for making it just in case you even need to for a recipe.
Brown sugar:
This is granulated sugar with molasses added. It comes in “light” and “dark” varieties; light brown sugar has a milder flavor and is usually recommended for candy making.
Brown sugar can be made at home by mixing white granulated sugar with molasses, using one tablespoon of molasses for every cup of white sugar (one-sixteenth or 6.25% of the total volume).
Thorough blending will yield dark brown sugar; for light brown sugar, between one and two teaspoons of molasses per cup should be used instead. It is simpler to substitute molasses for an equal portion of white sugar while cooking, without mixing them separately.
hope this helps. good luck and enjoy.
you can use the light brown sugar as a sub... it wont make much of a difference, but if you add molasses it will make a difference
It'll be just fine to use the light brown. They sound delicious!
