Question: i've just bought an organic chicken and there was a bag of giblets inside. I've never seen giblets before. What bits have i got - a dark red bit and a longer bit that looks like an action mans arm? what do i do with them?

Roast alongside the chicken, and when cooked, remove chicken to rest before carving.
Put roasting pan on the hob and add a mix of flour and water to thicken. Add stock while boiling and stirring. The meaty bits should be mashed with a fork (liver / heart) but the neck or other bits should be removed completely.
This makes a good thick gravy, which should be poured into a pyrex jug, then left to stand while the carving and veg is organised.
When stood at least 5 minutes, spoon off as much oil off the to as you can. then decant into a gravy boat or use as it is.

boil them to make a stock

u dont need to use them lol

throw them out

Use them for a stock.

dark bits will be kidney/liver ,the longer bony bit is the neck.put them into a pot of soup ,makes great chicken soup.and you can pick the meat of the giblets (neck)

If youhave a wee dog, they are smashing for boiling up and giving as a treat. They are not really nice for eating yourself. The long bit is the neck of the chicken and the dark red bit would be the liver. If you don't have any pets, it's still good to boil up the giblets and make a nice gravy...

dice them up and fry them with some diced onions

well my dear if you like stews you can pop them into stews if you are not keen on stews you boil them up with and make cornish pastries with them just add veggies of your choice then add the giblets put into a pastry case there you go 1 cornish pasrty made.

The giblets inside are usually one or more of the following organs:

kidney
liver
heart
gizzard

You can use them, along with the bones from the chicken to make an excellent chicken stock.

Cover, and bring to boil. Put on simmer adding water as needed.... add the dripping from the chicken.... Remove the giblets..... bring to a boil..... in a cup or a bowl...Put 1 TBS. corn starch and enough water to thin out to a thick liquid. Stirring the boiling pot constantly: slowly add the cornstarch mixture. Stir until it is gravy... you can add spices to flavor the gravy.

The giblets are the neck, gizzard, heart and liver...
Simmer in broth and chop fine for your dressing or add to your gravy.
You can also lay them in the broth while baking your chicken.

Neck
liver
heart
Gizzard (stomach)

Boil with vegetables to make a stock and use for your gravy or a soup.

I boil them up to make a stock for the gravy then give them to my dog she loves them !!
