Have you ever cooked a meal shown on a TV cookery show?!
Answers: Some of the TV chefs seem to have some weird and unusual dishes. I just wondered if anybody had attempted to copy any of them and......were the results good or bad?
.hi tango, yes i have, but it turned out a right disaster
Yes. I have made several Giada DeLaurentis/Everyday Italian dishes, and they all turned out great.
I have done lots of Jamie Oliver dishes as there easy to do. the results did end in me being on the pan all night though:-)
Yes. but U have to add or take away some of the ingredients in order to get a good result and avoid a disaster.
I have done many recipes from Food Network (Ina Garten, David Lieberman, Alton Brown, Tyler Florence, Giada De Laurentiis).
Here's two Giada De Laurentiis recipes that I learned from her show. They are excellent:
Angel Hair with Sun-dried Tomatoes and Goat Cheese Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis
Show: Everyday Italian
Episode: No Sauce Pastas
1 (10-ounce) jar sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil, chopped (oil reserved)
1 small onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup tomato paste
2/3 cup dry white wine
8 ounces angel hair pasta
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 ounces soft fresh goat cheese, coarsely crumbled
2 tablespoons chopped fresh Italian parsley leaves
Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil from the sun-dried tomatoes in a heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and saute until tender, about 3 minutes. Stir in the garlic and saute until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the wine and sun-dried tomatoes and simmer until the liquid reduces by half, about 2 minutes.
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup of cooking liquid. Add the pasta to the tomato mixture and toss to coat, adding some reserved cooking liquid to moisten. Season the pasta, to taste, with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with the goat cheese and parsley and stir. Mound the pasta into bowls and serve.

Chicken Piccata Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis
Show: Everyday Italian
Episode: Weeknight Dinner
2 skinless and boneless chicken breasts, butterflied and then cut in half
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
All-purpose flour, for dredging
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup chicken stock
1/4 cup brined capers, rinsed
1/3 cup fresh parsley, chopped
Season chicken with salt and pepper. Dredge chicken in flour and shake off excess.
In a large skillet over medium high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 3 tablespoons olive oil. When butter and oil start to sizzle, add 2 pieces of chicken and cook for 3 minutes. When chicken is browned, flip and cook other side for 3 minutes. Remove and transfer to plate. Melt 2 more tablespoons butter and add another 2 tablespoons olive oil. When butter and oil start to sizzle, add the other 2 pieces of chicken and brown both sides in same manner. Remove pan from heat and add chicken to the plate.
Into the pan add the lemon juice, stock and capers. Return to stove and bring to boil, scraping up brown bits from the pan for extra flavor. Check for seasoning. Return all the chicken to the pan and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove chicken to platter. Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter to sauce and whisk vigorously. Pour sauce over chicken and garnish with parsley.
I do try some of them. I made Jamie Oliver's Leek and Pasta recipe last night. It was wonderful and I will make it again.

Add a little of the water if needed. serve srinkled with some pangrattato, extra parmesan and thyme tips, serve the rest of the pangrattato in a bowl on the side.
I frequently do. I love to go to Food Network's website and print out the recipes I've seen them prepare in TV that look good. I hate getting into a "rut" and cook the same things over and over, and trying the ones the TV chefs make is a wonderful way to prevent that! I normally don't try the ones that are really too weird, though.
Yes, they are fun, and can be expensive.
I don't fancy Nick Nairns salad with gravy though.....ugh!!!
I have not. I don't enjoy cooking, but I do enjoy watching others do it on television.
What annoys me to no end though, is that these so-called professionals will handle raw eggs and meats and barely attempt to wash their hands.
I once saw Bobby Flay make a meatloaf. Then he sliced one hand through the running water, wiped both hands on a towel, and proceeded to make a pie. EEW!!
I've also seen others rub their hands under running water without using any soap.
I've even seen a friend of mine (not on TV) drop a piece of meat on the floor, pick it up and toss it into the pot without even rinsing it.
Listen up, people! I'm the laziest person on the planet, but I will wash my hands till they are clean!
For those who need instructions: Use warm water and soap and rub hands vigorously and make a lather for at least 20 seconds to remove dirt and germs.
Thank you. You may now "thumbs-down" me all you want, but I am Food-Handling Safety Certified, and not just ranting, so I know what I'm talking about.
