Can you indirect cook on a Weber Q grill?!

Question: Trying to decide between a Weber E-310 or Q grill.

Answers: Trying to decide between a Weber E-310 or Q grill.

Both the Weber E-310 (from the "Spirit" line of gas grills) and Q grills are great, well made gas grills. However, they are quite different in styling, functionality and their ability to use indirect heat cooking methods.

The Q grills vary from one model to the next quite a bit. They include both small, portable grills, such as the Q-100 and Q-200, and larger, more standard grill sizes such as the Q-300. The Q-300 includes 2 stainless steal burners while the smaller Q series grills have only one. To be able to use indirect heat cooking on a gas grill you need to be able to have one burner off while one (or more) is on. Therefore, true indirect cooking is not possible on the smaller, single-burner models. For the larger, dual-burner models, you can use indirect heat by turning off one burner while the other is on.

The Weber E-310 is a full sized gas grill with three burners. This means that you can easily turn off the middle burner while the two side burners are on. You can effectively use indirect heat to slowly roast any number of larger grill roasts in the middle of these grills.

I hope this helps. I strongly recommend getting at least a two burner grill so that indirect heat cooking is possible. Good luck and happy grilling!
