What do you like in your salad?!
Answers: Everything... I never met a veggie I didn't like
mushrooms,
lots of crutons,
and a good splash of dressing
Cheese. Feta, blue, cheddar, Parmesan.
Raspberry vinaigrette.
Walnuts.
Dried cranberries.
Oh, yeah, lettuce.
garbonzos(chick peas)/olive oil/lime/cilantro/hard boiled eggs/cherry tomatoes/spinach/shrimp/chesse(any)/oliv... etc. and the list can keep on going.....
Sunflower seeds, raisins, beets, eggs, cherry tomatoes, spinach, ranch dressing
For a green salad, I like a mix of dark, flavourful greens like fresh spinach, arugula, or cress. Iceberg lettuce is for children or people who don't know what really good food is! I enjoy different ingredients in my greens depending on what other foods are being served. But in general, I enjoy mushrooms, good quality olives (like Kalamata or Nicoise), diced tomato, garbanzo beans, pumpkin seeds (Sunflower seeds are too strong of a taste for me in salads), shredded carrot, and occasionally I like raisins, REAL bacon bits, or croutons, if they're freshly made.
For a dressing I normally like a vinaigrette or a citrus vinaigrette and occasionally I like a good quality creamy dressing made with Roquefort or another Bleu cheese. When I serve a green salad to guests and nobody can decide what they like, I take pre-made "Red French" dressing and blend it half-and-half with a strong citrus vinaigrette and it knocks everyone's socks off! I save the Ranch for vegetable dip.
For a potato salad I like German-style potato salad - drenched in a rich vinaigrette with lots of herbs; Viennese potato salad - served hot with beef broth and bacon with a little zing of vinegar; or "Baker Salad" - red potatoes mixed with sour cream, melted butter, chives or scallions, real crumbled bacon, cheddar cheese, and any other toppings you'd normally have on a baked potato, served cold. I CAN'T STAND mayonnaise-y or mustard-y potato salads like they serve at church potlucks or picnics - YUCK!!
I have learned to like fruits as well as veggies in my salad. With mixed spring greens, chunk pears, apple, orange segments, cucumbers and avocado, add some sunflower seed and walnuts for more crunch and excellent food value. Love Sam's Vidalia Onion dressing on it.
I make a spinach salad with fresh sliced strawberries and pralined almonds with a raspberry vinaigrette.
mushrooms, tomatoes, black olives and bacon bits!
I make a "kitchen sink" salad . . . everything but the kitchen sink! By chopping up the various vegetables, you make a blend of flavors that everyone seems to like!
Clean a lettuce mix: baby spinach, romaine, iceberg, bib
Top with chopped:
tomatoes
cucumber
green olives
black olives
bell pepper
roasted red pepper (in a bottle on the salad dressing aisle)
boiled egg (protein)
chick peas (protein)
cauliflower (for crunch)
dried cranberries
Sprinkle with crumbled bacon, sunflower seeds, shredded cheese or bleu or feta cheese crumbles.
Then toss it good with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Or salsa mixed with sour cream. And, if ya wanna, toss croutons on top!
First of all, it needs to be a good green lettuce (no iceberg!). And I like there to be about as much tomato as there is lettuce. I also like grilled chicken, seasoned croutons, and a little Italian dressing.
I also like strawberries, some almonds for crunch, and raspberry viniagrette.
My mom also makes a really good salad that includes crumbled feta cheese, red onion, mandarin oranges, pecans, and a good viniagrette (I'm not sure exactly what kind).
I like to cook some hamburger meat with taco seasoning, put some cheese and kidney beans on a bed of lettuce. For a dressing mix ranch and salsa.
tomato's,
lots of cheese,
onion,
croutons,
spinich,
green peppers,
cranberries,
pecans,
broccoli,
cucumber,
radish,
ham,
bacon bits,
and
italian dressing.
I like it all baby!!!!
I like ONLY vegetables in my salad. No cheese, croutons, bacon, meat. I slice and cut any of the following: cucumbers, tomatoes (only in season, otherwise they taste like cardboard), carrots, beets, green or red pepper, broccoli or cauliflower, and for good measure, I like to throw in some raisins. All very good with an oil and vinegar type of dressing and a little seasoning sprinkled on top.
