Which herbs go best with Salmon?!
Answers: I'm going to grill a fillet of salmon for tea wrapped in tin foil. I've bought a lemon and thought about adding a slice of lemon, or sqeezing lemon juice into the foil. Can anyone recommend any good fresh herbs to go with salmon? We've god knows how many herbs in the kitchen so don't worry about me not having them.
Dill and your lemon, bit of salt & pepper - Thats it! Don't overdo it or you lose the delicate taste of the fish.
parsley
I like dill with salmon
Lemon pepper is good....rosemary goes well with salmon.... Hope it turns out well.
Dill, garlic, tarragon and yes lemon or even lemon pepper.
dill is the classic for salmon. I also like marjoram.
Dill for sure
Tarragon is good with fish but it is a strong flavour.
I prefer to use parsley and chives to flavour.
Basil is a choice too.
I make a crumb topping last night with Breadcrumbs, basil, parmesan and sun dried tomatoes. All wizzed in the blender with a touch of oil from the tomatoes and then patted onto the fish and baked. I was using Mahi-Mahi so it only took 10 mins
Dill is great, with a lemon butter. Lemon in butter brings out the flavors of the herbs more. Salt and pepper. If you have orange Marmalade would be a great taste, over it, with some red pepper.
i find as salmon has such a delicate flavour that herbs overpower it i just bake mine in tinfoil with lemon and butter, but dill or parsley are supposed to go with salmon
Parsley or dill. mmm sounds delicious. enjoy your tea
dill
parsley
majoram
basil
Although I love the regular herbs like dill and tarragon, I recently made salmon with a sauce made out of fresh ginger and green onions, lemon juice, soy sauce, oil, seasoned rice vinegar and ground black pepper. The taste of the fresh grated ginger along with the green onions was so different and so delicious. I would love to try and do a fillet again with the lemon juice and ginger rubbed over the top of the fish, then grilled. Sounds yummy, right?
Dill would be good, however have you thought about a creamy watercress and blue sauce to go with that?
Basic white sauce with cream, a little seasoning, a little parsley and of course the watercress and Stilton or other blue cheese.
Serve on a bed of crunchy cabbage and runner beans.
dill
Dillweed and butter!!!(with your lemon)
Garlic if you like...
I also make a wild rice and white rice dressing to go with it.
Thanks for making us all Hungry!!!
Love it on the grill...
Hi hon! Dill goes beautifully with salmon I think :o) Hope this helps x
I made a salmon dip last night that included lemon juice, parsley, salt and pepper, liquid smoke, and onion flakes. Very good!
Some other great recipes...
Baklava Salmon (honey, walnuts, and mustard)
1/4 cup melted butter
3 tablespoons whole grain mustard or Dijon mustard (or your favorite)
1 1/2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/4 cup walnuts or pecans, finely chopped
4 teaspoons fresh parsley, chopped
4 (4 ounce) salmon fillets
fresh ground pepper
kosher salt
1 quartered lime or lemon (optional)
--Preheat oven to 400°; Line shallow roasting pan with non-stick aluminum foil, or spray with non-stick pan spray. In small bowl, blend butter, mustard, and honey, set aside; in another bowl, mix together bread crumbs, nuts, and parsley. Place salmon fillets on prepared pan, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and brush with honey-mustard mixture; sprinkle tops with crumb/nut mixture; if any remains, press into sides of salmon. Bake salmon 12-15 minutes in preheated oven, or until it flakes easily with a fork, serve with lime or lemon wedge.
Marinade for a 1 1/2 lb Salmon Steak or Salmon Fillets
2 tbsp lemon juice
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2-1 tsp salt
2-3 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon pepper
3 teaspoons cajun seasoning
--Mix all ingredients together and pour over salmon. Marinate for 1 hour. Grill over medium-hot coals for 3-4 minutes per side.
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
4 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
6 tablespoons lemon juice
2 1/4 teaspoons dried dill weed
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, to taste
2-3 lbs salmon fillets, skin on, deboned
lemon-pepper seasoning, to taste
sea salt, to taste
--Start cooking the fish on the grill. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, melted butter, lemon juice, dill, and cayenne pepper; mix well. Pour 1/2 cup of this sauce into a small saucepan and heat. Use the remaining unheated sauce to baste the fish as you grill. Place the salmon, skin side down, on a large platter and season with lemon pepper seasoning and sea salt to taste. Note: Check to see if your lemon-pepper seasoning already contains salt, if so don't add any extra salt at this time. Lightly brush grill grates with some oil and heat grill to medium. Carefully slide salmon off of the platter and onto the grill, skin side down, using a large metal spatula to help. Cover grill and cook fish, undisturbed, for 5 minutes exactly. Baste liberally with the reserved basting sauce, re-cover, and cook another 10-15 minutes- basting every 5 minutes. Use up all of the basting sauce (Don't forget to heat up the 1/2 cup reserved sauce from before). Fish is ready when it begins to flake and is starting to appear as if milk is seeping out. Carefullly remove to a fresh, clean platter and pour the 1/2 cup sauce you had simmering on the stove over the top of the fish.
BBQ Roasted Salmon
1/4 cup pineapple juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
4 (6 ounce) salmon fillets
2 tablespoons brown sugar
4 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons grated fresh lemon rind
3/4 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
--Combine pineapple juice, lemon juice, and salmon fillets in a large Ziploc bag; seal bag and marinate in refrigerator for 1 hour, turning occasionally. Remove fish from bag and discard marinade; combine brown sugar, chili powder, lemon rind, cumin, salt, and cinnamon; coat salmon fillets evenly with spice mixture; arrange fillets in a lightly oiled baking dish. Bake at 400° for 12 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork.
Another Marinade
4 (5-6 ounce) salmon steaks
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
--Place salmon in 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over salmon. Turn salmon so that it gets coated with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Drain excess marinade from salmon. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 10-12 minutes, or until fish flakes easily and is opaque in centre.
Enjoy!
In my opinion, salmon is best cooked in the microwave with butter or oil then add any flavourings after. It stays succulent and not overcooked.Lemon, dill and a bit of salt goes nice with a dollop of mayo.new potatoes and frozen peas.Enjoy.
Dill's too strong, parsley's ok but the Pepper and Lemon has it all the way especially if done on a bed of Corriander leaves and drizzled liberally with the best olive oil you can get. Great as Sushi but needs to ultra fresh or still wriggling.
i just grilled salmon 2 nights ago and i put dill, onion powder, salt and pepper and and cracked up some coriander seed and put that over it also. i made a little boat with tin foil and squeezed on some lemon juice then put it on the grill. it turned out delicious.i boiled some red potatoes that i cubed up. after they became tender i drained then added butter and chopped up parsley.again it was delicious
dill and tarragon are my 2 favorites on salmon, but if you want something really great try making a balsamic reduction with brown sugar and lemon zest....pour some balsamic vinegar in a small sauce pan and put on a medium heat add your lemon zest and stir in brown sugar and cook til it reduces, then let stand until room temperature, when ready drizzle on your salmon.
The best herb to go with salmon is dill leaves
Mild herbs, such as Tarragon or Marjoram however dill is always a dead cert.
For a very quick but yummy dish, try stirring/warming cream, fresh/dried dill and smoked salmon (or even the tinned stuff is good for this recipe) through a plate of hot pasta, MMMMmmmm!!!!
N.B. If you use non-tinned or non-smoked it will need to be cooked so, just make sure you simmer it in the double cream for a few mins to cook it properly, then pour over pasta.
You know what, I think I'm going to go and make some right now!!!
just depends on how you want your salmon the most popular herb has to be dill but you can use a lot of mild herbs such as fennel taragon parsley mint but as i said it depends on how you want to cook your salmon dill and mustard sauce is nice with a salmon darne or steak or a dill infused holandaise would go well with poached salmon or a di,amiral sauce will do nicely with a grilled slmon steak thats lobster bisque with prawns in extremely nice or what
Aromatic salmon cooked in coconut milk
Serves 4
Preparation time less than 30 mins
Cooking time 30 mins to 1 hour
Ingredients
4 thick salmon steaks
2.5cm/1in piece root ginger, peeled and cut into small, very thin slices
2 large cloves garlic, peeled and cut into small, very thin slices
350g/12oz tomatoes, peeled and halved
1 fresh red chilli, de-seeded and sliced as finely as possible
1 small yellow pepper, de-seeded and thinly sliced
4-6 cardamom pods, roughly crushed
400ml/14fl oz tinned coconut milk
sea salt
2 limes, juice only
handful of fresh mint leaves, chopped
Method
1. Put the fish steaks in a fairly shallow ovenproof dish with a lid, into which they fit quite closely.
2. Scatter the ginger, garlic, tomato, chilli and yellow pepper over and around the fish and the cardamom pods in between.
3. Empty the coconut milk into a separate bowl, add a good sprinkling of sea salt and gradually stir in the lime juice. Pour the mixture gently over and around the fish and cover the dish.
4. Preheat the oven to 150C/300F/Gas 2. Put the dish on the centre shelf and cook for 40-50 minutes, until the fish is lightly done. To discover this insert a small, sharp knife into the centre of one of the steaks - if the flesh is slightly darker pink in the centre it will be perfectly cooked. Remove from the oven.
5. Before serving scatter the mint leaves on top.
1 Bay leaf and lemon leaves to cover the fish the natural oils from these give salmon a really good flavour. I have a lemon tree in the garden not sure if you can buy the leaves in UK shops but if you ask at supermarket I am sure they would give you the leaves that come in the boxes with the lemons for free. Enjoy
The only herb that goes with salmon is DILL
I would try some dill or parsley. they normally go well with any type of fish.
Dill with most fish. But tarragon with it's mild aniseed flavour is fantastico.
