poke holes with fork then stick in the microwave cook for about 5 min then turn over and cook for another 5 min baking time may vary depending on the size of the potato

Put it on a microwave safe plate w/ water.

Poke holes in the tater w/ a fork

Cook on high 10 min. on each side.

Test for tenderness (inbetween turning) w/ a fork.

You may need an additional 5 min.

10 minutes is a good start if it's a medium potato. Stick a fork in it after and if it comes out easily it's done.
Another great use is when it's super cold out. Microwave a potato and wrap it in foil and put in your coat pocket. Keeps warm and if your hands are cold stick them in the pocket to warm up.

PS. I'm not a mother or Father, just a Chef.

poke some holes in it with a fork and throw it in there for about 2 minutes.

shame on your mother

It depends on how big the potato is and how powerful your microwave is. Try about 2 minutes at a time and then poke it with a fork to see if its soft. If you have the time to wait they are much better wrapped in foil and baked in a regular oven. You can bake one at about 400 for maybe 45 minutes or less if its smaller, or make two or three then you have extas for later to heat up in the microwave. Cooking is a lot of fun so good luck!!

PUT IT IN A BOWL WITH A LID, (PREFERABLY A SQUARE ONE) BUT IF U USE ONE PUT THE LID HALFWAY ON, POKE HOLES IN THE POTATO OR SLIT IT AND COOK FOR 5 OR 6 MINUTES, HOPE THIS HELPS
