Is there such a thing as "sticky rice"? Can you buy it, or is it how you prepare it?!

Question: Sticky rice is high glutinous rice or rice that has a very high starch count and is short grained.

You can prepare it the same as regular rice depending on the grain; 1 to 2 ratio of rice to water/broth.

Because it is so starchy this is what makes it "sticky".

Try the Asian isle of your grocery to purchase it. They'll be plenty at a farmers market.

It's how you cook it. Or should I say over cook it.

If you go to some Asian markets they sell rice specifically for making sticy rice. But if you prepare rice a specific way, it is also sticky rice. The rice made speciffically for sticky rice tastes better, though.

You can get stickier rices. In general the short grain rices tend to have a higher starch content, and are therefore stickier. That's part of why sushi rice is so much stickier than say, Basmati rice. Basmati has a longer grain and less starch content.

However, the dish called sticky rice can be made with any type of rice and generally involves adding sugar and coconut milk to your rice after it's been cooked to form a thick, sticky dessert.

Yes, and Yes, and you either prepare it (if you buy sticky rice raw in the bag, also known as sweet or glutinous rice, available in many well stocked large chain supermarkets or Asian markets) the same way you do regular rice, (2 cups liquid to 1 cup rice, boil the liquid, add the rice, stir 5 times, to break up any clumps, if present, cover and turn burner to low) some people, however like to use a mixture of coconut milk (canned) and water to it to give it a better texture/consistency........I'm in that camp.......the coconut milk does in fact, give it a better taste/consistency.....Enjoy!!!

Ask for Sushi rice, and the preparations are on the packet.

glutinous rice. It is used for Asian desserts. I do mine 1 rice and 1 part water. or You can also use short grain rice like the one that is used for sushi rice. It needs to be washed more than once. Good Luck!

Yes there is sticky rice. It's what I eat everyday and it is who I am. It's a part of my culture. You buy it in a sack that comes in 25 lbs. or 50 lbs. in mostly Oriental stores. It's called Glutinious Rice however you spell that. You can just cook it like you would cook rice.

sorry i dont know
