How can I keep my salad from getting frozen?!

Question: Nearly every time we store our salad in the refrigerator usually in a big mixing bowl with seran wrap or foil on top, the next day the lettuce is frozen and gross. It's always ruined and we can't eat it. I'd like to be able to make a big salad and store the rest for later without having this happen. Any ideas on how to properly store a salad? Is there a kind of bowl that I should be using that will prevent this?

Place your salad in the vegetable crisper drawer. You can put it in a large plastic bag with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture or in a sealable bowl. It is freezing because your theromstat is set to low and/or you are placing it too close to the walls of the refrigerator. Turn the cold control 1 notch warmer and you shouldn't have a problem.

Its is either too high in the fridge or the fridge is too cold.
Try placing the bowl on the lowest shelf possible.

Sometimes it has to do with where you put.
Like if you put it on the top shelf thats a nono
Coldest place.
try the lowest shelf.
& see what happens.

Either you need to turn your fridge thermostat down a bit (not quite so cold) or you are putting the salad too high in the fridge. The top shelf is the coldest spot in the fridge. Put your salad on the bottom shelf. We save our salads all of the time and don't have any problem with them freezing. Good luck!

your fridge is set too low. by the way, the top shelf is NOT the coldest place in the fridge, cold air falls, hot air rises, wow some people are dense!

your ice box is set ''too cold'' Does your milk freeze too?

derek c is correct...

The coldest part of the fridge is normally the place nearest the freezer.

Most refrigerators (bins) have lables. Such as "meats, butter, crisper" and so on... They are labled not only to keep you somewhat organized, but to also have you put your (cold)groceries in the right spot to keep them at the right temperature.

Make sure you turn the temp. on your refrigerator up a notch as I am sure you have it down too cold.

Second, make sure you store your veggies (salad) in the "crisper" section of the fridge.

This should help a ton!!

If none of this works, and your fridge is old, it may just be time to think about getting a new one!

Everyone is correct that your fridge is too cold. However, its not as easy as just turning it down. Do you by chance live in high altitude? I've learned that altitude, believe it or not, can effect the temp settings.

More likely however, I bet you have a side by side fridge. Even though the cold air falls and the lowest part of the fridge is coldest, in a side by side the whole freezer side of the fridge is colder. My fridge is turned all the way down, but I cannot keep produce in it, if I do I put it on the very top shelf all the way to the right. Typically I keep produce in my older garage fridge which has the freezer on the top.

it might be up to high in the fridge or your fridge is too cold
