I guess if it's thawed out, and still fresh in taste because it's thawed...then you could probably just add more of the other ingredients to your existing dough.
So add a little flour, a little white sugar, a little brown sugar, a little vanilla, etc. By increasing the other ingredients in the original dough, you'll end up decreasing the amount of butter. You'll also end up with a larger batch of dough than the original amount, because you'll be adding more flour, sugar, etc.
For example, if you used 1 cup of butter originally to make enough dough for 10 cookies, then increasing the other ingredients would give you enough dough for 15 cookies, without increasing the butter.
I highly suggest putting less butter to make it less buttery.
Duh
I don't think that once the dough is made that you can add anything else to it to make it less buttery. I think that you should just make a new cookie dough.
Question...
Is it the same dough from December that you froze or something? or are you making a new batch using the same recipe?
If it's from December, toss it. If it's a new batch, then either find a new recipe or cut back on the amount of fat you use.
For your next batch:
Use 1/2 of the butter and then for the other 1/2 use coconut oil. Can be found at walmart in a white plastic container with a green lid. Brand is Louana, it runs a little over $3. It is found by the shortening on the baking aisle. You could use regular vegetable shortening.
