Im just guessing but maybe you could try making it with cream of tartar and if it doesnt harden then put it in the oven for a bit

cream of tarter is the only thing that will work to harden it.

You need to bake it in the oven at low temperature so it dries out and hardens.

4 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 cups water
4 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup cream of tartar
Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan. Cook and stir over low/medium heat until play dough is completely formed and no longer sticky. Allow to cool slightly before storing in an air tight container or zip lock bag.

Variations:
Add one package of unsweetened powdered Kool-Aid to your playdough to give it a great smell. And food coloring for colors

Hi,
did you use enough flour?
you could also try adding some egg white, but just keep adding flour - try a small ball first and work up from there
good luck

The recipe I have is probably the same as yours, but it does say if it's too sticky you can add more flour or if it's too thick you can add more water. Mine says to put in a medium oven for 30 minutes after molding.

I haven't used this recipe since my kids (25 & 33) were very young, but we made Christmas ornaments with it and I still have them, so it's a good recipe if you can make it work.

Here is a recipe we use for glow dough. It can be made the same without the glow-in-the-dark powder for just regular play-dough.

3 Tablespoons flour
2 Tablespoons salt
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
1 pinch glow-in-the-dark powder
2 Tablespoons water

If you don't have cream of tarter you can substitute the same amount of lemon juice in its place.
