Pressing out flour tortillas, with an iron tortilla press?!
The flour tortillas came out thick, and would not get thin no matter how hard I pushed!
So! I gave up and ordered an authentic iron (heavy!) tortilla press online!
I was very excited and tried to use it right away!
I made my recipe, then went to press.... OH NO!!! The same thing happened! THICK TORTILLAs...... I am sooooo sad..
Does anyone know a good FLOUR tortilla recipe that is easy to press thin with my brand new tortilla press? OH PLLLLEEEEEEZ help me.... (tears)
I would try to make the corn tortillas, but cant find any corn flour here in japan! The recipe has absolutely be made from
flour...
Is there anyone who can give me advice? Thankyou for taking the time to hear me out, I am just sooo frustrated.......
Answers: I actually looked online and made a tortilla press out of wood.

I have made my own for years and the best way is to roll them out, it takes a little practice but it works great. I use a marble roller and have no problems getting them thin in fact you can darn near see through them. also there are two ways to make them: I like to use this recipe for tacos- about two cups of flour, pinch of salt, mix in a large stainless bowl then add 2-3 tbl spoons of corn oil. work it all together and squeeze the mix so the mix absorbs the oil. when done with this just crumble the mixture up and slowly add water and mix to a workable mixture. you should end up with a ball of dough, then make small balls and keep them covered while start to roll them out. make sure you dust the rolling surface. roll them in one direction and turn and flip the dough until you get the thickness and shape you want. this is the part that takes some practice.
now if you fry them just add one level teaspoon to the mix and they will turn out more on the flaky side. you can use this mix to make your own salsa chips. sorry I don't have a recipe for corn, hope this helps, it works great for me and I always get compliments on how delicious they are. good luck :0)
Flour, I haven't made. But corn I have. For corn tortillas you just need Masa Harina (its dry) and water and lard. All of that should be fairly easy to find here on the Internet, try Amazon. Hope this helps.
