I'm making chicken tortilla soup . . help?!


Question: I have the soup put together. Can i just add a few boneless skinless chicken breast to the pot and cook till they are cooked? Or do i need to cook separate and then add them?

They will taste better if you brown them in a separate pan, then slice them (or shred) and add them. You can just throw them in before cooking them, but they will taste 'boiled' and not have a lot of flavor.

I season mine and fry or bake then add to soup.

Sarah has a good idea.. brown the chicken in a pot large enough to hold the soup you've made. after the chicken is cooked, remove the chicken and cut into pieces or shred, (your preference) pour the soup into the pot that you cooked the chicken in, and add chicken and finish cooking...

Cook them seperately and when you're done keep the pan you cooked them in hot and add a bit of liquid to deglaze it. The liquid will lift all the concentrated chicken flavor off the pan an make a flavorful stock which you should add to the soup.
