How do I cook a large quantity of stew beef in a pressure cooker? I have never used a pressure cooker before:(!

Question: Help please!!

Answers: Help please!!

First, you need to know how to USE your pressure cooker. Different models operate slightly differently. Pressure cooking is absolutely fantastic, you can cook things so quickly in it and with such perfection, specifically stews, pot roasts, and potatoes. I noted that you wanted to cook a large quantity, but did not say how large your pressure cooker is. One thing to know, NEVER, under any circumstances, fill it more than 2/3 full. Please look up the instructions for your pressure cooker online before attempting to use it.

First read the instructions of your pressure cooker (very important)

1 1/2 lbs. beef stew meat, cut into cubes
1/4 cup flour
2 Tbsp. oil
6 cups hot beef broth
1 onion, cut into 8 wedges
8 carrots, cut into 1" pieces
4 potatoes, unpeeled, cut into 1" chunks
3 stalks celery, cut into 1" pieces
2 20-oz. cans tomatoes, undrained
1 tsp. Lawry's seasoned salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

Coat meat with flour. Heat oil in pressure cooker over medium heat or using brown function. Add the meat and cook uncovered until well browned, stirring occasionally. (The longer you brown the meat, the darker the sauce will be.) Add hot beef broth and the onion and stir. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Close cover and bring to high pressure, then pressure cook for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, reduce pressure, and remove cover.

Add the remaining vegetables, seasoned salt, and pepper. Close cover and return to high pressure, then cook 5 more minutes. Remove from heat, reduce pressure, and remove cover. Check seasonings and serve. Serves 4-6

.

Brown the meat, salted and peppered first, couple bay leaves garlic, minced onion, and one celery rib to discard after done. Then cover 2-3 " over the meat with water. Then bring to pressure, reduce heat and cook about 15 minutes. Release the pressure as per directions, I use por holders to transfer to sink and run cool water over to release pressure, check meat for doneness and for liquid, you may have to add more liquid.

Return to heat if needed. When meat is done add vegies, potatoes, carrots, celery, etc, and cook about 10-15 minutes until they are done. If you pressure cook with the veggies, it will only be couple minutes till they are done. I always add frozen corn and peas last and just stir them in. No cooking needed.

STEP AWAY FROM THE PRESSURE COOKER. Do not attempt to use that thing! I had one and threw it away!

Why not get a slow cooker instead? They are very good for cooking rough cuts of meat and make things very tender.

Sorry for the shouting.

I have a pressure cooker but never used it because I was afraid to use it being afraid it could explode. Sorry I can`t help . Good luck and be careful .

I agree with dizzybu. why use a pressure cooker when there are slow cookers which makes even the cheapest cuts of meat tender? I use to use one but was always kind of afraid because of hearing so many horror stories about pressure cookers exploding and gettig burned if you didn't know how to use them. Ouch! Also wth a slow cooker you can just put the meat in it and run errands or whatever else you want to do where with a pressure cooker you have to keep a constant eye on it.
