Do I have to thaw that roast before I put it in the crockpot?!
Answers: I'm wanting to put a pot roast in the crockpot before I go to bed but it's frozen. Can I still throw it in the crockpot with the veggies even though it's frozen?
NO, definitely not, that is the beauty of the crock pot. I use it all the time and going from totally frozen, you don't even have to add any liquid, comes out perfect every time.
Prepare the roast as you would normally in terms of seasoning and let it go.
YEHA OR ELSE IT WILL TASTE DUGUISTING
Probably not a good idea.
i would thaw it, just because it's going to take a long time to cook. But, if you are planning on letting it cook all day you don't need to thaw it.
I put one in the other day frozen but left it in for a really long time on lowest setting
Either that or thaw it in the microwave first, then crock-pot.
It will take longer to cook frozen, & veggies will be overdone.
Or you could start it on low, without veggies, just consomme.
Then add the root veggies in the morning, tender ones later.
umm i would think u should the thaw the meat out because you do have to wash the meat off....and besides the meat may not cook properly
Ive never done it...but I don't see that it would hurt.....Add water to cover....salt,onion & a bay leaf would be good....but the veggies shouldn't go in until the roast is almost done....
Yes, you just have to give it more time. Like tonight you may want to put it in with its seasonings and maybe onion and garlic, then tomorrow morning add your vegetables and keep on low. When you return from work, you will have dinner! If you have to have it ready in the morning, I am sure your microwave has a defrost feature, and even if you do not defrost it completely, you can put it all together tonight and put it on high overnight for morning readiness. Good luck!
No...you need to thaw it out first. It will be awful if you don't.
I wouldn't suggest that. It won't cook evenly. You can thaw it in the microwave
I did that many times when I worked 3rd shift!
It will take longer, but since it takes 8 hours already...you are fine.
YES defrost it do you need it for the morning? are you eating roast for breakfast? if not thaw it out in your sink overnight then put it in tommorrow my mom always thaws her roast overnight in the sink
Really, if you aren't going to be eating the roast at 7 AM, I'd say just toss the roast in the fridge before bed and then put it in the crockpot before you leave for work in the morning. It'll be done by the time you get home.
Yes, you can. You will need to give it a couple of hours extra in the pot. And there will be more fluid in the pot, also, so don't add as much. One of my family's favorite recipes is bbq, I just put the frozen meat in, pour over half a bottle of bbq sauce, and let it cook. Don't worry, it will taste great.
