Should I throw away a food after the date expires even it it appears safe to eat?!

Question: Product dates do not always refer to home storage and use after purchase. If the date expires during home storage, the product should be safe to eat if handled properly for a short period of time after expiration. Do not purchase foods that have passed their expiration date at the grocery store.

nfd?

Sell by dates have nothing to do with experation, so make the difference. If it is an experation date, throw it away.

If it is close like within a day or two it is OK but I would not use anything older than that. When in doubt throw it out.

Why take a risk better put it in the garbage. If spoilt the results could be very harmful

Depends upon what it is. Usually, yes. But some items (milk) are supposedly still good 10 days past the date stamp. Bread past it's date won't hurt you, but ti won't be very fresh. Yogurts, sour cream, cheeses: yes, throw out. Canned goods or boxed items, probably not. Meat, maybe, depends upon if it's chicken or beef. And if the food has been frozen, that effectively stops the clock's ticking on the expiration date.

Dairy products you can use safely 5 days after the date expired as long as it was unopened. But it does have to be off the store shelf by that time After 5 days, the taste will be 'off' ie it wont' be fresh tasting.
Meat can be frozen, if its been in the frig over 48 hours cook well done.
Canned goods and medicine, I would throw out because the quality deteriorates after that date.

Well if its milk or something then yeah throw it out!
Any dairy product should be thrown out the day it expires.
Other things. Well they could be kept a few days after the exp date but no longer

IF it still smells good & looks good eat it

Yes I thorw expired food away...I wouldn't spend time getting sick eating something where the expiration date has passed and the food looks menza menza to eat...I wouldn't take the chance....but for the brave ones who like adventure in there culinary life eating expired foods enjoy...LOL

What you're calling an "expiry date" may be a "best before" date. The food makes a difference. A cookie may be okay but not sliced meat from a deli. If you're not 100% sure don't take any chances and just ditch it. Next time, buy a smaller package. In the long run, it will be more economical.

Expiration dates are only dates that the company guarantees their product's freshness til. I personally consume and use things until it is evidently not fresh anymore.
