What's the correct wake to do baked potatoes microwave/ oven style?!
Thank!!
Answers: I need some baked potatoes for lunch and don't have the time to cook them fully in the oven. I heard you can do it first in the microwave and then the oven. How long would I do each for 4 large potatoes?
Thank!!
Pierce the potatoes with a fork a couple of times so they won't explode in the micro. Put the 4 of them in for about 7 min on high. They will be softer & EXTREMELY HOT! If they are not as soft as you would like put them back in for another 2 mins.
Then when your ready put them into an oven at 375 keep turning them until they are soft all over.
preheat oven to 425. stab each potato with a knife all the way through ..cook in microwave for 10 minutes on high..remove and place in heated oven for 15 to 20 mins . depends on how you like your skins..
Scrub your potatoes and cut out the eyes. Pierce each potato deeply with a knife, once on the bottom and once on top.
Place all four potatoes in the microwave. Cook for 15 minutes, then check for doneness. They may need another 5 minutes or so depending on their moisture content.
Let them sit for 5-10 minutes to complete the cooking.
You can also do baked potatoes in the crock pot.
Scrub potatoes, pierce with a knife, and rub skins with butter or olive oil. Wrap each potato in foil.
Place in crock pot, using a rack to lift them off the bottom surface if you have one. (If not, they might stick a little when removing them but it's not a big problem).
Slow cook them on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.
Best of luck.
i find it takes about 5 minutes per potato in the microwave it is important to pierce them with a fork or knife before cooking. Also check them half way through the cooking time as they don't always cook evenly. So you may need to re-arrange them in the microwave. Then lightly oil and salt the outside of the potatoes before you place them in a 350 degree pre-heated oven to crisp them up a little.
Very simple way I learned in college...
Wash the potato, pierce a couple times with a fork. While still wet, put in a plastic grocery store bag and loosely twist the handles of the bag closed (Leave plenty of space- the bag should remain fairly full of air so it can puff up and steam the potato). Set the potato in the microwave, with the potato sitting on the twisted part so it doesn't come undone easily.
Cook for 5 minutes on high and check it by piercing with a fork. If it's not done (still too hard), rub a little more water on the outside if it's dry, put back in the bag and cook longer at 2-3 minute intervals until it's done. Be careful opening the bag- a lot of steam will be released!
(Doing it this way steams the potato so it's still moist. Cooking it in a microwave in the ways listed above will work, but it will be a dryer potato. )
I find that microwave-baked potatoes don't have the same fluffy consistency as regular oven-baked, but you can make them almost the same by putting them in a small paper bag before putting them in the micro. Just wash and pierce, then put them into the paper bag and roll the bag over on itself. Cook for 5-8 minutes, depending on the size of the potato. You can put each potato in it's own small bag, or cook them together in a larger bag. (I wouldn't use plastic of any kind because it has been found to leak nasty toxin into food!). Check for doneness with a fork, if not ready, cook some more. Be careful taking them out...they'll be very, very hot! Enjoy!
I start them in the microwave for about 5 - 7 minutes on high and then finish them off in the oven @ 350 or on the grill. Saves a lot of time and they come out pretty good.
